The contractor for the Pemba Branch of Railroad arrived in this City on wednesday last on. The Steamer Manitoba and left on thursday for fort Gurry. He informed us that the work would commence immediately with a Largo Force of men and that it was his Endeavor to Complete the Road As speedily As possible. Or. Whitehead was formerly a resident of England and assisted in firing up the first locomotive used in that country the old engine having a walking beam to turn the wheels. Since settling in Canada he has been a member of parliament for Many years. He has also been a rail Road contractor for a number of years and built the Buffalo and Lake Huron Railroad in Ontario.
