Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - October 19, 1875, Winnipeg, Manitoba Provincial news. Pica Ibiza mountains. To the editor of thu daily Fuiek Presb. Crops. As i informed you before the crops hero were pretty generally ruined by the Grasshopper ravages the severe Frost putting on the finishing touch and thereby depriving us of oven a partial crop of potatoes whith latter we had calculated of after the Grasshoppers left us. Out of forty bushels that i planted i have Only gathered about five bushels and the most of the settlers have fared similarly. Some two or three however escaped to a certain ext edit the general catastrophe. Or Leary comparatively speaking has had a very fund of us has also had or Watt Duncan and or Mordon but these Are the Only cases in the settlement that the destruction was not Complete. . Better houses Are at present engaging the quention of most of the set slurs. 31 r Leary Lias logs out and hewed for a 20x25 feet inside and two stories High i Galbraith has logs and the Walls partly up for a a ii ouse 20x24 feet inside or want Dun car to erect anew and Ergo domicile this Winter As do also or mor Don Mrilyn or Stevenson. Or Mccullough or bail 10, or pandas i Foster or Adam Sori or Gordon and or Joney. Mril Igor erected a Largo two Atory hewed log House Hist Spring and James Duncan Anil Thomas Duncan built Largo and commodious hewed log houses at the same time. It is quite evident therefore that the crop failure has Only increased our determination to stick to the Beautiful farming country or naw the population of this Section lius Boon increased duri if the i it season by the acquisition of some Twenty three or Twenty four new settlers and still they come and will continue to come till Winter fairly sets in. I think i May safely say to Are growing faster than any other Settle ment in the province and that next and summer s increase will prob ably place us at the head of the list As ichards in fact any other Way of All the new settlements of Manitoba. A i see by the last pure press to hand that some one of our settlers signing himself second has corresponding with you in re Gard to this . To thinks the name i proposed of Prazella is a very Good one and has the Merit of originality Etc at the same time to docs not think it comes up to the ideas of the majority of the settlers. Very Well if it does not suit the settlers they need not adopt it though i beg to state that so far As i have inquired the name scorns to suit the settlers perfectly. Your Cor respondent agrees with me that Oak Dale is too old an i worn out says to something new and proposes the name of Dunmore As one to at will in All likelihood meet the approbation of the people. Stow the name Dun Mero decidedly gets away with me to find anything now in it and As regards the approbation of the settlers those i have spoke ii to seem rather Adverse to it. I am very far from wishing the name i proposed adopted if it does not suit the i think it would to advisable to Call a meeting As soon As decide the matter at once and for Ever. Mountaineer.
