The tableau of the Gipsy Fortune Teller Persona Ted by miss hods is was very Good. Master Tommy Scott took a part representing Santa Glaus. This Young gentleman s Talent bespeaks the future orator. The last piece the Maple Leaf for Sang by four Young ladies the misses Fon Seca Caldwell Scott and Tompson representing the four nationalities was the piece of the evening. Mayer Cohen a firm of opticians in Montreal have made an assignment. They have been some two years in business having succeeded Lazarus Morris co., somewhat widely known dealers in spectacles. The aldermen being assembled his Wor ship explained the object of the special meeting and the Council proceeded to Dis cuss the comparative merits of the Silsby and Chatham engines. The opinion appeared to be in favor of the Silsby it being a rotary engine and less liable to freeze be sides it had been thoroughly tested Here and had not been found wanting. Mrhar grave was elected to the chair who stated the object of the meeting was to consider the question of aldermen for the Ward for the ensuing year. Tho following gentlemen were nominated for aldermen messes Hespeler Alloway Mcmicken Mclenaghan Roberts Scott Maxwell Bathgate and Young. Or Mcmicken went into an exhaustive re View of his conduct in the Council. He dwelt at length upon the financial operations of the year and declared that the City had lost very heavily in the negotiation of the Bonds. The Ontario Bank had made a bet Ter offer for the City account than the Mer chants Bank and he endeavoured to have it removed but his object was Defeated in Council by one vote. He had opposed the Market House robbery. The South Ward had been very unjustly dealt with. He offered himself for re election. Alderman Mclenaghan was not open for re election. He had agreed with Aid Mcmicken in Council in almost All matters except that of finances. Or Alloway at the request of a Large num Ber of electors offered himself As a candidate for Alderman. The South Ward was heavily taxed and deserved More than it had been getting. Or Swayze if elected would Endeavor to serve the South Ward faithfully without attempting any injustice upon other parts of the City. Captain Scott was not a candidate he criticised the conduct of the past coun. Oil. Or Maxwell s remarks were mostly directed to the Market House building which he said was cracked and the foundation was defective. He was a candidate or Bathgate was not a candidate. Alderman Hackett made a lengthy speech upon the work of the year. Or Cornish referred to the debenture negotiation. The debentures had been sacrificed and Faith had been broken with the people in Selling the whole Issue at once. The Council had acted very unjustly in giving the merchants Bank the City account.
