The place was surrendered to the russians with out resistance in 1829. From the very first it was admitted by the turks that the place was indefensible and its surrender in response to the demand of the russians who its evacuation essential to the conclusion of an armistice is therefore but making a virtue of a Philip Popolis also a town in rom Elia eighty six Miles West North West of Adrian Opelc is situate on an Island in the Maritza which is Here navigable.
