Inspectors of the health department have made postmortem examinations in several cases and pronounce the disease True Texas fever. The supposition is that the animals contracted it from refuse which dropped from Railroad cars in which Texas cattle were being transferred into City. The officers of the department say that the Only Means of prevent ing the disease from spreading to All of the cattle in the neighbourhood is to shut them up til Frost comes. The Caribou robbery. Revelstoke Star a number of stories Are Rife As to the identity of the robbers of the Caribou state. A heavy rain fell shortly after the robbery and no Trace of the highwaymen has been seen since. Several parties have been organized and have started in Pursuit. Two men who camped at Anim Lake All Winter and who stole a Canoe and moved it to Mahood Lake Are suspected. They could get from Mahood Lake to Olearia Ter and thence Down the North Thompson. Two men who on the 22nd of june left Ashcroft on foot for Caribou Are also suspected. One was a Large powerful Man and apparently a pretty hard Case. On wednesday Constable e. T. W. Pearse of Kamloops organized a party and that even ing started up the North Thompson to intercept the highwaymen should attempt to make their escape by that Avenue. Besides the Constable there were Donald Bain Donald Mclean Louis Lara vie and two indians All Well armed and mounted. Nothing is being left undone by the authorities to have the robbers brought to account and it is hoped their Effo Itu will be rewarded. The mask worn by the highwayman was made from a piece of flour sack. A party from Bridge Creek report having traced the stage robber for Twenty five Miles in an Easterly direction. They found Marks of Only one Man. They gave up the search on account of not having authority to arrest the Man. Afraid of the mormons. Them Mcleod their influx stopped. Macleod Gazette the Gazette the contemplated ext Ntim mormon immigration Alberta with a grave danger. We cannot deliberately turn our Bucks on the history of mormon settlement in Utah his tory that in being looked into now for the first time by most of us in country. Making All Doe allowance for the Strong anti mormon feeling in that country and by the by what gave Rise to it and making Largo deductions for feeling remaining can not but be one of suspicion. No people Are As a general Rule More tolerant a the Way of race and religion than the americans and the fact that american courts have deemed it necessary to disfranchised mormons and not admit them to naturalization gives Albartus a feeling of uneasiness and alarm which it is difficult to get rid of. There is no doubt that the thorough system of co operation which obtains among the mormons and the Complete subjection of their people to Tho Heads of their Church will make it difficult for to compete with them when their numbers Are sufficiently Large to enable Ali uni to push their business. Under the circumstances the people of Alberta cannot be blamed if warned by the experience of others they take Steps to protect themselves from the consequences of the invasion of a people whose whole Creed seems to be the Advance ment of their own interests with As Little Benefit or profit to called gentiles As pos sible. We confess that the remedy for the dangers feared is beyond us. We May As Well at once face the fact that nothing in the Way of bring ing the matter to the attention of the govern ment has yet been done. If any action is to be taken we believe that the people of country should go straight to the govern ment Point out the threatened danger Back up the statements with reliable data from the United states and ask them to Eri it such legislation effectually protect us from the disaster which will inevitably follow a Large mormon immigration. If one half that is charged and apparently proved against the mormons is True in would not for the government to recognize in it a conspiracy against the rest of the pop Illarion and consequently against the state. In that Case the affidavits in connection with naturalization applications for entry of Laud and Patent for the same would contain a clause stating that the applicant was not a mormon. This would certainly Settle the question and it remains for the government to decide whether they can secure sufficient grounds to enable them to legislate on these lines. If anything is to be done then let us come straight to the Point and not confine ourselves to Side issues which have Little or no bearing upon the main question. Football. It has been definitely settled that the scotch football team will try the Mettle of at least one of the american College Champion Ball clubs As arrangements have been made for a match Between the foreigners Aud a team from Princeton College.
