Delightful drives in Ouloth St. Tons of thanks passed on the return trip. The delegates of the Winnipeg Board of Trade Winnipeg Grain Exchange Winnipeg City Council and Portage la Prairie and bran Don boards of Trade with u. S. Consul Taylor and the press representatives a party of sixty six All the invitation of the Northern Pacific Way Foi Tript Duluth St. Paul and Minneapolis returned to their Homes on saturday evening. It is Safe to say that a More satisfied or delighted excursion party has never yet returned to Winnipeg. The travelling appointments were excellent receptions at Duluth St. Paul and Minneapolis Hearty and spontaneous and weather As perfect As could be wished for. General manager Graham and general agent Swan i Ord who accompanied the excursion lists Bave reason to feel proud of the Success of the affair or. Swinford looked Well after the personal Comfort of each guest and his task was no easy one. It was 10.30 tuesday morning when the train bearing the excursion lists pulled out of Winnipeg depot. The Portage and Brandon 1 the first Sleeper the came next with the delegates occupied t Twilight the Bis Rua Winnipeg Board of Trade and Winnipeg Grain examiners the courier followed with the Winnipeg City Council and officials and the City press representatives manager Graham s private car bringing up the rear or. Swin Ford and or. Graham being on Board with u. S. Consul Taylor and or. Wells the latter of Jamestown x. D. Daring the Day an organization meeting was held a which the Mexcur zionists deputed messes. Ashdown Bell Mcmillan Strang and mayor Pearson Winnipeg mayor Garland Portage la Prairie and sex mayor tracer of bran Don is a committee to arrange All matters of detail on the trip. The plam was a Good one and worked Well. The dining car of the Northern Pacific had been Well stocked for the excursion lists and it is perhaps unnecessary to state that Manitoban fully appreciated the Good things provided. Before leaving the diner at Winnipeg Junction the waiters and Cooks were made Happy by the presentation of a Well filled purse. It . Duluth was reached at eight o clock on wednesday morning. From the arrival of the train to its departure at eight at night it was one round of entertainment for the Manitoban. The mayor of the City and a joint committee of the various Trade bodies of Duluth were on hand to Welcome the party and led the Way to the Spalding hotel by the Way one of the finest in the Northwest where an excellent breakfast had been pre pared at the City s expense. The meal Over Twenty carriages lined up before the hotel and were soon filled with Manitoban and leading men of Duluth who pointed out places of interest along the route. This drive on a delightful August morning will be remembered for a Long time by the visitors. Duluth does not present a very Beautiful appearance As viewed from the deck of a Steamer or an incoming railway train but seen from the Lovely Terrace drive presents an appearance which for Beauty cannot be surpassed by any City in America. Every Householder on the Hillside has an unobstructed Panorama of the Harbor and Lake Superior s vast expanse of water. Ascending the Terrace drive on the East a Stop was made to allow the Manitoba is to inspect the new Reservoir now building and which will give the Zenith City an almost unlimited Supply of water. Another Large Reservoir is to be constructed higher up on the Hillside to Supply citizens living in the More elevated portions. Driving on the visitors were Deh Ghec with the enchanting scenery of Chester Creek and other Lovely Glens. Directly above the business portion of the City a grand View is had of the immense elevators and Coal and lumber docks. Minnesota Point stretches out like the Blade of a scythe for seven Miles into the Lake forming one of the most perfect har Bors in the world. Duluth was completely encircled in the drive the carriages returning so the hotel by the Western suburbs and the Harbor front to the hotel. An adjournment was immediately made to the Board of Trade building where the visitors gathered on the floor of the Exchange. Ashdown As chairman of the delegation thanked the Duluth people for their kind attentions and the Northern Pacific for giving the business men of the North an Opportunity to View their prosperous City. An excellent menu was provided. It had been intended that speech making should follow the spread but the limited time at the disposal of the visitors and their desire to be the Harbor of the City and its facilities pre tented. All wheat receive Din Bon is kept separate in bonded bins according t the Grade which it passed inspection i Manitoba. The wheat upon arrival is inspected by customs officers of both countries and the keys of the bins kept by them unt the Grain is re shipped thus preventing an possibility of fraud by the elevator men. The Duluth elevator system has a combined Capac it of nearly bushels. With the year ended saturday the total receipts wer bushels. These figures show tha there will be ample room for a Large polio of Manitoba s enormous wheat crop of the present year. The Grain men who visited the elevators were favourably impressed with wha the excursion lists left Duluth for St. Paul at eight o clock wednesday evening giving three rousing Manitoba yells for Duluth and Ner hospitable citizens before departing. Though this lady lives in Albany and her club is domiciled in new York her interest in its Advance ment never lags and in conjunction with two Clever men she edits a handsome monthly devoted to the interests of amateurs. Several Clever women. Miss Barnes is a gifted musician and at Oue time was an ardent student of Art but some years ago a camera fell into her hands and since then All the time and study to be spared from her duties was lavished on photography. She is without doubt the Cleverest lady Amateur in Amer Ica. In the grounds of her spacious Home in the capital City she has built a Laboratory and studio perfectly equipped with All the necessary apparatus. Fifty lenses ground by famous makers Are counted among her most precious treasures and the studio boasts an array of painted scenery that would Stock a Small theatre. One Clever Little woman mrs. Laber of Paterson whose husband was a Stock Raiser for the City markets purchased a Small camera and All unaided except for the formulas Given in a paper pamphlet taught herself to take Small Tut charming photographs.
