Telegraph opera tors nud station agents on the Chicago Mil Waukee so. Paul Road began vacating their positions this morning and the March was kept up until night when reports received at the strike committee s Headquarters in Chi Cago indicated that about 500 men had left Tho company s employ. These figures Are taken from reports sent in from ten Divis ions of the Road. Of some grand chief Thuraton said not As Many men went out As we expected but advices from the other divisions show that a much larger number have resigned than Ware Caunt de on so that on the whole we have got out As Large a Force As we hoped. This number will be increased from Day to Jay. The majority of Tho men who have gone out have gone out for Good. They will never return to the service of the company. Others will return Only up on the conditions already named. We have had Call for men from other roads and we shall till these portions with our men As fast As possible. At the general manager s office the i ail Way officials and clerks said there was no strike there had not been strike and there would be none. 70 men had resigned and their places had been filled. If the others quit there Wera plenty of Good men they said ready to take their places. The movement they claim was nut to be dignified by the name of a strike. The greatest fear the Railroad company has is that the strike will spread among the operators and agents to such an extent that Only indifferent men can be secured for their places. This in itself they might stand for a time but the question arises As to How the engineers might like to receive clearances from incompetent operators the officers of the Road realize that the strike in really in the hands of the engineers. If they Obj pot vigorously to work intr with incompetent men a tie up might Fol Low. The engineers Are openly in sympathy with the strikers and it is feared that they May seek cause for demanding their re in statement. Fire in Philadelphia.
