The governor told the committee he could not address such a great crowd but would receive the memorial in the morning. This afternoon a complaint was filed and a warrant issued for the arrest of Fitzsimmons one of the principals in the coming fight. It web sworn out by William p. Landon. The fact was at once telegraphed to White Bear and Fitzsimmons and his Trainer Are now in hiding. A Host of people from All parts of the country Are constantly arriving to witness the fight and it is fully expected that the seating capacity of the big amphitheatre will be sold by to Morrow night. The management have no fears that the fight will not take place. Knoxville Tenn., july crisis in the trouble Between the ousted miners in this District and the convicts who Wera brought Here from the state prison at Nashville has at last been reached. When about 400 armed strikers attacked the guards who had charge of fifty felons at Briceville last wednesday night and liberated their charges it was confidently predicted that this would be bus the beginning of a general movement throughout the entire mining District of the state. Governor Buchanan waa immediately notified and responded by ordering two companies from Chattanooga and one from Knox Ville to the scene. The fifty convicts taken from the guards at Briceville two escaped and Tho others Wero brought to this City. When tha militia arrived they took the convicts along Back with them and warned the mob that they would protect them at All hazards. Gov. Buchanan at once proceeded to the seat of trouble and in an neat speech explained his position to the rebellious miners. He told them that it was his sworn duty to uphold the Law and if the waa wrong he was request granted. It. 8. Authorities renew a privilege taken from the o. B. A tear Aso. Montreal july 20. Vice president Shaughnesy of the Canadian Pacific railway recently made application to the Secretary of Treasury at Washington for the privilege of resuming the examination at Montreal and Toronto of passengers Luggage destined to Pacific coast Points in the United states Over the company s All rail Maiu line via Winnipeg Lilis Bian b., 0., etc., which privilege was Dis continued about a year ago. Assistant Secre tary of Treasury Spaul dins has granted Shanghnessy s request and Deputy collector two Lioy who is in charge of the u. S. Cus Toms in this City has received instructions to renew the practice. Convict lease system not to blame and the Only recur a of the men waa through the legislature. The miners announced that their families were starving and that they were compelled to drive out the convicts if it Cost the life of every Man in the Valley. They made All sorts of fun of the handful of Beard less youths but declared that they would not harm the spider legged cigarette dudes As they characterized the militia but As soon As the militia were withdrawn they would release every convict in the Region. Becoming impatient however at the delay in recalling the troops they decided to try to overcome the troops by Force of succeeded Only too Well. Coal Creek Tenn., july noon the miners sent a committee to the soldiers and demanded immediate surrender. The soldiers Laid Down their arms and the miners Are now in Possession of the stockade. They compelled convicts forty in number and one Hundred soldiers to get aboard Tihe train which will take them away from the scene of the trouble. Knoxville Tenn. July from Briceville arrived Here at four o clock. They Are All in Good spirits and will return in the morning with reinforcements. The boys were badly treated by the people of Brice Ville who seemed to be in perfect sympathy with this Lawless element in Coal Creek Val Ley. At 10 o clock this morning miners Farmers and other natives who have no occupation at All took Possession of Tho Hills Mound the Briceville Camp. Fifteen Hundred of these were armed with rides the rest had shot guns and pistols. They came from All the mines in a radius of fifty Miles. The organization was Complete and their leaders placed them along the Hill sides with military precision. At the Call to arms the Little Garrison turned out gallantly and pre pared for defense. It was apparent at a glance that a fight would result in a massacre. A meeting of officials was called some declared that a Stout resistance to the first attack would be sufficient and the mob would with draw. Others thought that it would be suicidal yet everyone was in favor of doing his duty notwithstanding the exposed position they were to defend. The miners called a Parley and were met on Neutral ground by col. Sevier. They stated that they had sufficient Force to overwhelm the soldiers but did not care to shed blood if the convicts were quietly turned Over to them. This request was the miners then asked Carnelle h striking workmen a Advt permit Nis Mills so ban. Pittsburg pa., july 11 o clock to Day been 200 and 300 workmen from Carnegie s Homestead Mills arrived at do queue and announced their intention to pre vent the men from working a the Duquesne steel works. Every Workman that approached the Mill was stopped and told that to would be expected to stay away from the Mill. The Homestead men declare that they will Nob permit the Duquesne run under present circumstances. This afternoon the strikers Are parading the streets at pique Sun with brass bands and Are determined to Stop All work. The police officers who were carrying the dinners to the workmen in the Mills were stopped the food taken from them and destroyed. The employees of toe Carnegie firm at Braddock Are also taking a hand in the matter and Are putting in circulation that the Carnegie employees at Braddock and Home Stead will join in a general strike on wednesday unless the firm will recognize the amalgamated association and sign the wage scale. A mass meeting will be held to night. Parliament disturbed a Man with a grievance makes himself Beard from the galleries. London july House of commons was this evening the scene of a sensational occurrence in the midst of legislative proceedings. A Man who had been sitting in. The strangers gallery suddenly sprang to his feet with a yell. Great excitement arose when the excited individual was seen to be wildly flourishing a package of some kind which he held in his hand loudly muttering to himself the Man violently dashed the bundle upon the floor of the House con stables immediately hurried into the gallery and after ejecting the disturber took him into custody. When the bundle had been care fully picked up and examined it was found to be nothing More deadly than a lot of papers referring to some grievance real or fancied of the person who had so promptly been shown to the outside of the parliament building. The Victoria disaster Namen of lilo tourists drowned off a. Vie Anure yacht. Victoria 0., july pleasure yacht containing six people capsized at 5 . About two Miles off the outer Harbor wharf. All drowned except Edward Mutch who was picked up by a boat s Crew from the to. S. S. Marion. Lashed to the Mast of the upturned yacht was the body of a boy twelve years of age named Edwards. London july the court of appeals to Day the famous St. Paul s cathedra1 re Edos Case was dismissed with Cost against the appellants. This Case waa the Appeal of Allcroft and others against the decision the Bishop of London and Baa been a subject of interest to Chu Romea and others since the litigation Beean in 1888. The question raised was As to the legality of the figures in the re Edos or Wall at the Back of the altar of St. Paul s Cathedral the Contention of the Appel lants being that the sculptured figures of our Saviour and the Virgin Mary in the re redo were calculated to encourage superstition Ana to suggest unlawful ideas of Devotion. The decision sustains the Bishop who held that Contention was not Well founded and so in sures the retention of figures in the the re Edos. Toronto s doodling. Clarke wants an investigation by the county judge. Toronto july mayor presided a Council meeting to night when the charge of doodling in connection with the Street railway was considered. While he Felt that there was nothing in the Chaimea he thought that for the credit of the City the whole affair should be investigated by the county judge.
