Pine show of live five thousand people in at ladies and Art Arnott of Hayfield bad a Fine pen of and ,0hatlea polling of Brandon exhibited a Fine lot of pure bred Shropshire. Tar la Cis pc the second Day of the Brandon fair was a Rand Success exceeding in this respect the 03t sanguine expectations of he promoters. The tooting of the steam whistles of traction engines and the endless rattle of machinery in motion made Job enlivening scene in the farming implement Section of the grounds the greatest source of attraction however was the horse Aud cattle show particularly the former. It is if of any exhibition in Canada the exhibit of blood draught and general purpose horses could be excelled. Crowds too resorted to the main building attracted by the varied and interesting exhibits therein. Julany also visited the pens in which the sheep and pigs were exhibited. The number was Cut Large it is True but this was More than or in the value of those exhibit also a Good exhibition of de. There was poultry. Houses. There were entries in this Section which thirteen classes from the thorough bred blood horse Down to the Pony. Or. Har Ris v 3 of Mooso Inin was judge of the Haw and or. Rutherford v. S., of Portage h Prairie of the Light horses. They rave the Nta oat satisfaction. It is doubtful if two bet Ter men could be assured in Canada for the blood horses s. Webb Bowen p. D. Lowe j j. Fisher 0. T. Card and James Hume of Brandon had Fine exhibits. Com Rade a thoroughbred English race Hore imported by j. Mcgregor co., but now by s. Web Bowen was greatly admired. Bouverie Routledge of Virdan also showed a flue crusting stallion. In the loads cer claw waa a Large exhibit of Rood a Nares. J. D Mcgregor w. J. Curtis h. Nichol Alex. D. Gamley p. D. Merritt c. T card George we. Mansell Aud we. Dillman of Trandon had Good exhibits. We. Nichol Brandon Hills h. A. Cunningham Hay Field Beeson bros., of Beresford h. B. Hen Derson of Barberry s. P. A. Cartwright Souris and j. W. Shanks of rapid City also showed some Fine horses m this class. In Carriage horses there waa a Good do s w Mcgregor of Brandon and d. My Oais of Douglas carried off the Palm in Stal sons in the team exhibit j. Gibson of wrap dam Alex. Nichol of Alexander were awarded Tho . H. W. White of Carberry and to. Of Brandon exhibited Fine single Drivers. The exhibit was Largo m general purpose her a Minonk be most successful were John Nupsey . Percival John Isaac a1 Mcnaught of rapid City were the chief exhibitors of fat sheep. It is said that the Brandon and rapid City districts from the rolling character of the country Are exceedingly Well adapted for the raising sheep. Pigs. There were Only a limited number of entries in this class but there were a few pens of excellent pigs. Those exhibited were nearly if not All of the Berkshire class. J. Shanks of rapid City. Thos. Speere of Griswold and a. Hume of Brandon were the principal exhibitors in this class and winners of prizes. Bissett of Roseland sock the special prize for the Best Grade now having pigs in 1891. Prizes were offered for Poland China Yorkshire White and Suffolk pigs but there were no competitors. To Cutey. The exhibit in this class was not Large but it was Rood and a source of great attraction during the fair. Considerable excitement was caused by an exhibit which for some time was believed to be a new species of poultry imported into the country. The cock and Hen were of a Beautiful Magenta color and they looked exceedingly Well. 16 transpired shortly afterwards that a. Mac. Matheson of Brandon had dipped a Fine pair of leghorn into a pot of Magenta Dye with a View to exciting the curiosity of poultry fanciers during the fair. He had other Fine varieties of poultry. Master w. H. White of Brandon was another Large exhibitor and took first place for a pair of Plymoth Hooks. J. M. Percival John Ramshaw and j. B. Fraser bad also Good of Hibits. We. Jones bad an exceedingly Fine collection of Laa shans Black Spanish Black Minorca and Dorking fowl. Mac. Matheson e. H. White h. Wheel Dou of ducks geese and Guinea fowl. The first named took the diploma offered for the Best collection of poultry distinct from other varieties. T. M. Percival of Brandon took a special prize for a Goat and pair of kids that were much admired during the fair. We. Hen Derson of Brandon was judge of the poultry. products. There was not a very extensive exhibit in Grain outside of that made by supt. Bedford of the experimental farm. There were in All Only sixty five entries in Grain and seeds. The judges Wece messes. Thomas Thompson and Kenneth Campbell both experts in others in order to assist the attractions at the fair. J. E. Wells of Winnipeg and Brandon had a Fine hardware exhibit to the left of the Entrance to the main Hall. Jackson Rob Neon of Brandon made a Fine display in organs and piano from their Musio House. Zink bros., of Brandon bad a Fine exhibit of boots and shoes end other things in the leather line. W. Senkbeil was also an exhibitor in the same line. J Whitelaw of Brandon had a crockery exhibit that was much admired. Wilson of Brandon made a Fine hardware exhibit of which stoves of All kinds were a lending feature. Mias Behan of she Brandon copying office had a compartment in this Section in which she explained the Vir tues of the Type writer. W. A Randy co., of Winnipeg and Brandon had a Fine display in the musical line. They showed some Fine organs and pianos. Miss Pickett a daughter of Tho Rev. Or. Pickett of Brandon played some Fine selections on the piano that proved entertain ing to the vast crowds that visited the build ing. Wilson Smyth of Brandon had a Fine exhibit from their House furnishing establish ment to the right of the main Entrance in which were Fine unites curtains cornices per glasses and handsome pictures. Fleming sons of Brandon had a Fine exhibit from their store at the head of the stairway. Rose co. Had an exhibit in the same line. The display of japanese work made by or. Marchand was a source of great attraction hot boys m earn of f m 21 u during the fair. The finale. The Preat fair closed about six o clock p.m., to the Delight of All who had anything to do with the management. President Bedford Secretary Harkness and the other directors have earned a respite from their labors after the hard work of the past week. Or. W. Walker assistant Secretary is also deserving of a word of Praise for the zealous work done before and during the fair. J. W. Yau Tassel the director who had the general supervision of the main building and responsible for it is deserving of credit for the Way he executed the work entrusted to him. Mayor Kelly As chief magistrate and those in authority with him did All in their Power to provide for the welfare and Comfort of strangers who visited the pity during the week. In stallions the prize winners were x f Huston Rowland s. Upper son andr. Morrison. J. B. Fraser Barberry d Carig Douglas and h. Nichol bran showed prize teams. In the other Divis ions of this class Eood Stock was shown by Kelson Rogers Pearson George Ive Eble mrs. Itary Mcdonald Thos. Hopwood e. Chesley Kislev Rachwall and Alex. Nio Bol. Tto Viavi Aarau n. A samples shown however were Good Ana com prised red Fyfe six rowed Barley White and Black Oats and Green sheaves of All kinds of Grain and grasses that were much admired. Flax seed and native hops were also on exhibition. John Young of Griswold a. Nichol of Alexander s. Hanna of Griswold Rao of Douglas we. Nichol of Brandon Hills and j. D. Fraser were the principal exhibitors and prize takers in Staple grains. John d. Fraser was a contributor of native hops win. Man sell in sheaf Rye and 0. Shields in flax seed. products. The entry in fruits and vegetables was Large and varied. Rhubarb of this season was shown by s. Upper and son of two Rivere and we. Nichol of Brandon Hills. Early Rose potatoes of this year by John Benoe and j. D. Fraser of Brandon were greatly admired and a Hebron variety by John Bissett was also excellent. U. B. Card contributed a Nice assortment of carrots beets Pickle onions radishes and other vege tables. J. Noonan was also a Large Oon Tribu Ator in the same line some cauliflower pars Ley lettuce and celery being particularly Fane. Or. Noonan has an excellent Nursery and gardens in the Vicinity of Brandon. C. Ahoe Bridge is another Large contributor to this Tolaas and carried off nearly All the leading prizes. Prof. Robertson of Ottawa acted As judge in this department in which there were 44 entries. Daisy products. Mrs. Leslie Smith of Wawanesa also took prizes in this class. , of Douglas took first prize for twisted and Plain Woolen yarn. My. J. Fleming of Carrolton and mrs. G. Brandon showed Fine samples of Home made bread for which they were awarded prizes. Mrs. Brock had a Fine preserved native fruits made from fruit cultivated m the Brook Nursery gardens to almost adjoining the exhibition grounds. The strawberries of this year s growth were As Large As plums. A he rapid City Woolen Mills owned by Gep. Mcculloch of. Had a Fine exhibit of their manufactures which was greatly admired. Or. James Ovas the manager was present in charge of the exhibit. They showed an Assort ment of Whit and coloured shades in All White and Grey blankets cloths and flannels. The exhibit is a credit to the establishment which is doing a Good business Al though Only started in 1889. Fine arts. There were quits a number of entries in this department. Miss Lizzie Speers of Griswold took several prizes for landscape Flower and panel pwn ing As Well As for Crayon sketches. Miss Mcfadden of bran Don was awarded first place for an Oil paint ing of wild Flowers. J. W. Fleming of Brandon took prizes for animal painting and c Maywood of Brandon a prize for land scape painting. Or. J. A. Brock photographer had a nne exhibit in his line and was awarded a prize for an excellent Crayon portrait by him of Rev. Or. Spence Labe presbyterian minis Ter at Kildonan. Or. W. H. Atherly artist was judge of this Section. Department. The ladies were credited with some work in Domestic manufactures but it in this de Tino Bull under Bull three cows and two we plemed to this Stock and complimented messes. Hall Ana near us in John e Smith of the Beres Ford Stock farm South of Brandon entered a Herd of sixteen head and Caj prizes offered. Their won no this. He was awarded u Silve extra recognition of his Herd. In holsteins there was keen Competition. It is claimed for this class that they Are Good Milker and their popularity with Farmers u. Mcnaught entered a Fine Herd in the class. W. It. Acton and John o 1h Parment that they show up to advantage. The upper Flat of the main building was nearly entirely devoted to their Handiwork. There must have been at Lew 200 entries in this Clasa alone. The judges were mrs. R. Bonerb mrs. Greaves and mrs. Hardie of Brandon and a pretty onerous task they had. Mrs. W. O.
