The c. P. And loading plat forms. To the editor of the free press. Ions ago there appeared in your paper an account of an interview Ono of your reporters had with or. Mon Coll the general manager of the c. P. R., in which he states that a Good Deal of the reason of a Block Ade on their lines this year was of account of formers loading cars at platforms. I wonder if the c. P. 11. Magnates have in View an on the government at Tho coming session of. Parliament to try and induce them to do away with loading platforms and thus further Cavor the wheat buyer when the gentleman made that state ment. I have helped to Load More than one car at platforms this fall and i never knew of one of those cars leaving the siding for at least a week after they were loaded. I have talked to wheat buyers on the subject and they say that with the exception of the nest ten Days after threshing started it has been impossible to get cars away from the siding after being loaded for at least a week or ten Days. I suppose the loading platform is to blame for every siding being full of loaded cars for the last month from Moose East. Or. Mcnicoll knows that the loading platforms Are not to blame in the least for the blockade but like Good generals the Canadian Pacific railway company Ara preparing the Public for some developments during the next session of parliament where in conjunction with wheat Deal ers they will to have the Grain act so arranged and amended that the act will be useless to farm ers and so Benefit both buyers and themselves. The loading platform is a great Boon to the Farmer we want them larger and More of them. The cars i helped to Load this fall at Oak Lake and Griswold were sold on track at 01 cents per Bushel. The Street Price on the same Day was 55 cents so anyone can Sec the loading plat form is a necessity. The real cause of the blockade is a shortage of cars and engines and every c. P. H. Official that Well. It has meant hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Farmers of this Western country this season the shortage of cars and now when we get an act enabling Farmers to Load direct and thus do away with some of the evils with which we have to contend they Are blamed for something which they Are innocent. I Hope the Grain grow ers association insists on the Amend ments to the Grain act they have suggested at their late meeting being enacted and put in Force at the coming session. They Are moving in the right direction. I Hope you will see your Way clean to inserting this letter in your paper. I have waited to see if someone would not deny the statement of or. Mcnicoll a but As nothing has been said about it i Send you this As my senti ments on the matter. Subscriber. Oak Lake dec. 20. Christmas turkeys. To the editor of the free press. The caption Christmas dinner will come in your Issue of 17th inst., you review the poultry situation pointing out the great de Mand and Scarcity to meet that de Mand. Towards the close you pro Pound this question Vohy do not Western Farmers raise sufficient for our own adding there is never a time when poultry is not a High Price in the Winnipeg mar now 3. Word about these two last quotations. If the High Price re fers to the Consumers end of the Deal i la take exception As i am not in a position to know. But from the producers stand Point the Price has never been even an approach to High. Take this year for instance when there was a known Scarcity Poul try throughout Canada How do we find prices Range with your produce dealers in reply to an enquiry received a few Days ago your largest dressed meat dealer and Packer quotes the generous Price for Choice dressed poultry of lie. F.o.b., Melita. Doubtless scalded fowls would not be graded As Choice and hence be paid for at a lower figure. We did not ship As we got much better prices at Home and i had not forgotten my Prience with Winnipeg produce and commission men when in the Mer Cantile business. With very rare exceptions i had to take a loss on All the farm products i sent to your City. To Many it would seem that either the Consumers your City Are close listed buyers or that your pro Duce dealers Are not averse to pocket ing their reasonable profit plus the producer s share besides. Until Consumers Are prepared to pay Lye. Per in. For Choice turkeys in Ordinary seasons and it. In a year like this one they need not expect the Ivest to Supply their Christmas dinners As it does not pay to raise them for less. And Why not pay these prices when we have All had to pay 15c. Through out the summer for steaks and roasts when dealers have the nerve to offer 4 or 3c. Less for prime turkeys than is paid for Prairie beef it is High time for the feathered tribe to enter a protest and quit As Many did this year. A Farmer. Melita dec. 19 ;
