Specials to the free press the following telegraphic message was despatched by the free press yesterday morning to correspondents Ami leading citizens at thirty leading wheat growing centres in Manitoba and the Northwest territories Winnipeg August 22. Telegraph us to night a two Hundred word despatch on crop situation in your locality. We want to know in particular if wheat cutting is in pro Gress and to what extent if not when it will Start. Cutting is in Progress in some quarters but in other parts will not be started until next week. There la a wide divergence in the estimated yield. Many Farmers count on an avenge of 25 per acre but it is doubt Ful if this High Ligure will be maintained is most of the old and Light land will not produce 20. Fox Warren wheat late. The wheat had been dry in this part and when n mindful of Grain wag pulled and roots exam ined there was no apparent moisture at the roots. The late wheat or that which put in somewhat later on Spring blowing looks to be turning color ii Little also but Tho late hot spell and no apparent moisture it the roots May have been the cause As when closely examined. It is not Well filled yet. This late Grain will now do Well for the next week or ton Days. If left standing but Early own wheat on fall blowing or summer fallow of Well filled and healthy looking. No rust in this District Worth speaking of. Thera is not the bulk of Straw that we had for the last three years but when the Small rainfall for the season is average yield estimated at Over Twenty bushels an Aero. In pal City. Mnn., aug. Crops in this District Are in the Verj Best condition and there is no sign of rust anywhere in the locality. The prospects for a Good crop Are better than Ever before. The average yield will probably be 22 bushels or better to the acre. Cutting 1ms not yet commenced but several of our farm ers expect to Belln this week and Iveth favourable it will be Gen eral by next week in the District to the North and West of the town. The crops in the District to the South and East Are in first class shape also but Are Bont n week inter and cutting probably not commence there till next week. Cutting at Birtle. 2500 harvesters arrive of 4 of of l wheat Harvest in Well advanced and the yield High. Bartle Man. Aug. The lighter land wheat cutting was in full blast a week ago several Farmers haying Cut Over half their crop. Others have Cut Between sixty and one Hundred acres and will finish by wednesday or thursday. Tho Dull weather it the end of the week places the cutting on heavier soil a few Days later but by wednesday or thursday All will be in full Force. A great Many St rated this morning. So far there has been no damage to the crop either by Hall or Frost and no rust whatever. The Sam ple is Good and the yield will be fully up to the average crop. The lighter lands will yield from 1c to 20 bushels to the acre and the heavier from 20 to 24. Though some of it by appear Ance will greatly surpass that Mark. If the weather keeps favourable this week will see n great Deal of the wheat in this District in the Stook. Of the 71 stations heard from 40 report no damage at All 16 report slight damage and 15 report damage from 10 to 50 per cent. The districts most appear to be the souls Branch and the Western half of the deloralne.1 Branch. Taken As a whole these reports indicate average damage of under to per cent. In Manitoba and practically none in the territories. The nver a age yield from these sections figures out 19 bushels per acre and the average Date of general harvesting with favourable weather August 27th. The following is the report in detail 1 stations. The oat crop is scarcely up to the i average. Cental Portage la Prairie aug. Condition of the crop on the Portage Plains is fairly satisfactory. To the North of the town rust is pretty Gen eral but the Grain was so far advanced before being attacked that the damage will be comparatively Light. To the South of the town however beyond the River the Farmers Are not to fortunate is the rust is equally general there while the Grain is inter and the Damn go it is feared will be great. To the Eust and West of the town absolutely no rust has yet appeared. And the wheat is in excellent condition. Bad at Baldur. Rust of two varieties and worst of Tho town. Baldur Man., aug. Wheat crop Here is damaged by rust about 25 per cent. Many Fields Are very Oats and Barley Are not dam aged and will be a Good crop. Farm ers Are cutting Barley. Wheat cutting will be general on the 29th just. North of Baldur the rust is very bad. Conflicting at Carman. Majority of Farmers say they Nover had better crops. Carman Man., Cut Ting has begun in several sections of Duffern to Day but As the wheat is yet on the Green Side cutting is not general.
