Mofle rate men on both sides of politics continue to Hope that its labors May not in the end prove fruitless however unfavourable the Outlook was last night from Premier Asquith s reply to a question in the House of commons that no Date could be fixed for a second Reading of the amending Bill. It is understood that the negotiations May be carried into next week. An important meeting of unionist leaders in the House of lords was at tended last night by lord Lansdowne lord Selborne lord Salisbury lord Hal Bury. Lord Curzon. Of Kedleston and the Duke of Devonshire. The daily Telegraph says the announcement that the conference of the leaders meets Astrain this morning does not justify the Hope that Progress has been made towards a basis of Settle ment. The possibility of an agreement has dwindled to the vanishing Point. Today s sitting is generally regarded As a Mere matter of form and in All probability the prime minister will announce that the party leaders have failed to come an agreement. There likelihood of an Early Harvest and the Grain Sample will probably be a Good one. Oats and Barley Are Light and it is possible that not More than one half an average crop of these grains will be harvested. Some compensation is Likely to be realized however in the prices of the coarser grains As the amount for Export will undoubtedly be Small. Few outside harvesters needed. The need for harvesters from out Side Points will i consider be very limited the unemployed men in the towns and cities being probably quite As Good harvesters As any that we could Hope to get from the East and the government is busying itself in moving the Farmers from the districts where there is a crop failure to other districts where men will be required. Normal. Rumor confirmed. July outstanding fact in the Irish situation tonight is that the Home Rule conference is stir in being the predictions of the to Hole Liberal and unionist press of yester Day that the conference was on the eve of collapse having proved false. After a protracted meeting today the conference adjourned until to Morrow. Meetings and discussions of the various party leaders proceeded in lobbies of parliament tonight with unabated activity and moderate men like lord Courtney Are working indefatigably in the direction of com Promise. Hopes and fears fluctuate from hour to hour. One favourable sign is found in the tact that further consideration in the House of commons of the amending Bill which was postponed until Mon Day on account of the conference has been still further postponed. This justifies the belief that the conference extend into next week. Another hopeful indication was a meeting of the unionist leaders which Jas attended by the Marquis of lans Awne the Earl of Selborne them a jims of Salisbury the Earl of Hals Pau a. Earl Curz on of Kedleston and Duke Devonshire. Such a of unionist Peers would lordly have assembled unless some y matter was to be discussed. Last year both of these concerns acquired the habit of placing a Lien on the Farmers Erain while it was san on the farms and the changes which Are suggested to the commission Are that the local elevator men shall become partners with the implement companies and Banks in collecting these accounts. The proposed method of procedure is that after the Grain has been placed under Lien the elevator Man shall be notified that this has been done and shall then refuse to receive any Grain from the Farmer except As the prop erty of the Holder of the Lien.
