Prince Rupert the first governor Hudson s Bay company was the dominant figure on the royalist Side in the civil War and later rendered Brilliant service As an Admiral of the Fleet the second governor became King of England and the third was to be famous As the first Duke of Marlborough the greatest general of his age. Men of such prominence were not always available but through a Large part of the history of the company the men in control have been accustomed to dealing with affairs of great moment and there has developed at Hudson s Bay House a tradition of statesmanship and largeness of Outlook. This has been especially conspicuous in recent years. From 1868 to 1880 the three Earls of Kimberley and Iddesleigh and or. G. J. Cabinet ministers and statesmen of High standing. For Twenty five years the governor was lord Strathcona who entered the service of the company As a Junior clerk. Today the company is proud of a governor who rendered National service of the first importance during the great War and who combines Large experience and Ripe judgment with a statesman s breadth of vision.
