Woetho of the Bureau of chemistry there is do doubt that Gas of these qualities can be made from the materials named. Tho question to be solved is As to whether the Gas can be made for these Pur poses economically enough to make it practicable and whether the necessary Container for Gas can be made compact enough to be carried around on automobiles and trolley cars and thus extend its use to Ordin Ary transportation needs. Far As making the Gas is con said or. Woetho thin after noon the problem already has been solved in the University of Saskatchewan in Canada where i worked for some time. There to made the Gas from Straw and rigged up a Large bag As a Container with a. Capacity for about cubic feet of the Gas. This bag we attached to the roof of automobile and ran the Gas directly into the Carburettor which was of Tho Ordinary Type used on Automo Biles. The engine of the automobile was of a Standard Type. With this fuel we ran the automobile around the neighbouring country without the slightest difficulty. Outlook declared promising. It works on the same combustion principle As gasoline though in adjusting the Carburettor it is necessary to shut off All air. The reason for this is that the Gas As manufactured contains All the oxygen it needs for combustion and the admission of any air would simply weaken the horsepower produced and unloading of bricks affords an example of the enormous saving that results from the elimination of in Necef Esary loading or unloading de lays. The possibilities for Reduci g transportation expenses materially through the use of proper body equipment or of biliary equipment Are so a eat that no truck operator should feel satisfied to abandon the subject after a superficial examination. Special unloading devices needed on trucks for Speed unloading has been Given just As much study As loading by efficient and operators. As a re sult time saving devices which serve a wide Range of requirements have been perfected. In some classes of work the truck body lends itself to speedy Load re Moval. This la True of Coal removal and contracting work where dump bodies elevated by hoists operated by the truck engine Power Are useful enabling the operator to remove the Load almost instantly. In some types of Coal delivery the body instead of being tilted is bodily elevated so that Coal can be Chu Tecl to the bin. For removing heavy objects from the truck platform swinging Crane apparatus has been devised. To pre vent the truck from tipping when the Crane is in operation folding put riggers arc used. Overhead Monorail systems also Are used for this Pur pose. Power winches used. Power winches Are used to Aid in Hie unloading of heavy objects. Tele phone companies use these truck winches also Lor laying cables and to assist in unloading the heavy spools of Cable. Watch Radiator Hose when engine overheats when engines which normally keep Cool even in hot weather or heavy climbing begin to heat suspect the condition of the rubber Hose which connects the Radiator with the water jacket. There Are two such pieces of Hose but it is Tho top one which usually goes because it carries Tho to water from the top of the engine into the Radiator. The Bottom Hose carries Tho Cool water either to the pump if. There is a. Pump or directly Back to the water jacket if the engine uses the Thermo syphon Cooling system. Cars which use pumps for water circulation have smaller pipes and consequently smaller ribber Hose connections than those which use Thermo syphon Cooling systems. Hot water gradually disintegrates the rubber and Cotton of the Hose and when the inner lining of the Hose Breaks Down into a Mush it frequently stops up the Hose connections to an extent sufficient to prevent pro per water circulation. Replacing such a Hose connection can be done in a few minutes by any one who can use a wrench or a and is an operation which does not need the skilled and expensive ser vices of a repair Man. Sometimes engines which Cool properly in Winter heat up when the first warm Days come. If engines of the pump circulation Typo this is often caused by a hitherto unsuspected freezing of the pump which has resulted in broken pump wheel Blades. Dismounting the pump and taking it to pieces is the Only Way to make sure of this trouble. The remedy is a new impeller in the pump.
