Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - September 2, 1920, Winnipeg, Manitoba Manitoba free press Winnipeg thursday september 2, 1920 1cr Valley should go 25 bushels nearly bushels of Fine hot weather and wind will enable resumption of threshing which had just started when the rain . Little damage by Frost some wheat had already been delivered at both Kenville and Benito Ana some Barley has been shipped. There has Boon s Little Frost at Points in River Valley but it is by no Means general and damage to vegetables is relatively Small. There Are some very late Fields of both Oats and Barley that Are in. Double ally Hurt to some extent but so much Stock is fed in this country that a few Fields of course grains nipped by the Frost is never a serious matter. A few of the Inte Fields of South of the River in the Benito District May show slight wrinkling lust there is certainly no serious damage of any wheat. In common with All the West wheat in the Valley has suffered a Little from extreme heat fill ing time. I some wheat also has been Cut tool Green. When All these minor defects Are allowed for the Swan River Valley will Market an enormous Quantity of excellent wheat and Barley. 7 asked for an estimate of acreage in crop and the following figures were Given me by one of the men i who knows the Valley Well. Swan River Valley prone Ris about 50 Miles Long by 3d Miles wide which roughly is one million one Hundred and Twenty thousand . Of this probably one million is arable and of that million about 30 per cent is at present under crop. The land in crop about 40 per cent of acres will be wheat. Average Twenty five bushels there is not much Clou of that the average wheat yield of Typ Valley will run to 2-5 bushels so from two and a half to three million bushels of wheat May be counted on from the Swan Kiver Valley this year. Barley acreage has been increased ver a consider by this year so much so that Barley pretty Well divides the honors with Oats on the balance of the cultivated area. Much of tie liar Loy is weedy with wild Oats but the stands Are very heavy. Wheat and Oats crops Are fairly clean. T think the bulk of the Barley is in on the older land. Wheat is rather badly mixed As to variety. There has been a tendency to try out All the new Early ripening cheats with the result that there Are Fields of prelude. Pros ton learn this. Percy and Stanley wheat and Fields with a mixture of All these varieties. This affects the uniformity of Sample to some extent and there is no need for it. As wheat ripens line its Early As it does in Manv districts where nothing but Mari Iuis and red Fife Are grown. Kuliye s5 per cent wheat and 15 per a. E.
