A letter was submitted setting Forth a pro test against the department because it was averred the jewish workers were not getting their fair share of jobs. S. Lewis s. H. Shah sky and s. H. Mclean assured the Deputa Tion that to his knowledge no racial question entered into the matter of employment on the civic staffs and advised them that they would Bufi seven a fair and Square Deal. At his suggestion the letter was refer red to the City Engineer for investigation and report. Aid. Blumberg brought up a com plaint from merchants in the North end who of late were being forced by police action to discontinue Dis playing their wares in front of their stores. The complaint came from dealers on King North of Puffer in which was strictly a Market District Aid. Blunberg said. He said the practice of the merchants in spread ing their goods on stands along the sidewalk had been brought to police attention As a violation of the City bylaw and asked that the commit tee take some action to permit the merchants to follow their usual Cus Tom. Aid. Mclean pointed the police had no authority to do other Wise than enforce the bylaw though he agreed the display of goods in this locality should not be objection Able As it was a Market area Tus recommendation was that an Amend ment be made to the bylaw exempt ing this Street from the usual regu lations against use of the Public thoroughfares.
