Manitoba free press Winnipeg Chubch news anti Union vote is smallest Here Manitoba has least non concurrent congregations of any province figures show although relatively it is outstrip Ped by Saskatchewan the anti vote among the presbyterians of Manitoba is the smallest of any province of Canada according to the latest figures As contained in the current Issue of the. New against the 478 former presbyterian congregations which Havo entered the United Church of Canada Only 11 have voted non concurrence to Date the summary Sho ivs. Out of a total of some former Presby Terian members Only have voted to remain outside of the United Church. As compared with the 11 congregations in Manitoba which voted anti Union Saskatchewan has 15, but the latter province has 866 former presbyter congregation now in the United Church or almost twice As Many As Manitoba. New Brunswick which snows the next smallest num Ber of Antl bodies has recorded 22 non concurrent congregations which Are now in the United Church. The anti minorities in this province however were for the most part larger than in the West. Alberta shows 34 congregations which declined to enter the new denomination As compared with 541 which voted in in Alberta however the Antl strength is regional being largely confined to the red Deer and Edmonton presbyteries. The new Outlook in its last num Ber summarizes the present strength of the United Church of Canada As follows formerly methodist. May accept science without loss of god or. Salem act of creation not Contra dieted by evolutionists merely tie method evolution and christianity not at variance 165 . Formerly congregate Kallst 174 non concurred formerly xon concurred. Liu total number congregation in United Church 8.78s of the 334 missionaries of the presbyterian Church in Canada at East 314 Are carrying on their under the United Church. There Are a total of 631 foreign missionaries now committed to work in and for the United Church of ofte membership of the presbyterian Church in Canada less than 30 per cent Havo recorded their r0 Zottl sins Union in the does it matter How Man crime into the was the question discussed by Rev. Or. Bland in the Veston United recently. The clash Between the theory of immediate creation and that of or. Bland pointed out was Only one of method not of Croato ship whether Man was made As the apocryphal gos Pels of the infancy represented tha child Jesus making sparrows out of Clay that flew away when he clapped his hands or whether by Small variations accumulating Over vast Ages of time makes Little difference when we remember that Man is on either hypothesis just what he is now. If evolution Means that Man having been developed out of a. Brute was nothing More than a brute it would mean the death of christianity and of human civilization but to evolutionists Man is Man with All his unselfish affections ills missionary passions his disinter ested Devotion of scientist and Martyr. The practical question is not what he was a million years ago. But what he is now and evolutionists can believe and in vast majority do believe with Augustine of god thou Hast made Man for thyself and our hearts Are restless till they find rest in god. Again is the same on both Theo Ries or As some think More magnificently and Augustl Manifest in the evolutionary process. The evolutionist begins his account of creation exactly at genesis 1, he beginning it is unfortunate that Clarence a should have acted As counsel for be defence. He is a. Lover of Liberty and Justice but As an agnostic belongs a Small class declining in. Numbers and influence. The two chief objections to Edom on. Or. Bland thought was first that degrades Man. But in the evolution f Tho race from some More ape like orm hero is no More degradation than very individual experiences in his de elopement from helpless unintelligent Ifancy and from still humbler Atal phases to an origin so Humble lat the keenest investigation can Rols Over no difference Between the be innings of a Shakespeare and the be innings of a dog or a cat. The truth evolution does not degrade Man but elevates the whole animal creation and one of the Fine features of modern be is the growing respect and sym a Felt for animal life. Bland thought St. Paul have believed in a future life for Ani Mals. What Lover of dogs will not. Be disposed to agree with the Jim How human dogs can be a second . Bland continued is that evolution contradicts the Bible. But not More than the two accounts of creation in Gen. 1, 11-13 and Gen. 11, 4-25, contradict each other. In the first creation occupying sex Days and. Man made last. In the creation wrought in Ona Day. Andorran made first the he said does riot teach the direct creation of Man More distinctly than in teaches that the Earth is Flat and that the Sun moves around the Earth and when Copernicus 400 years ago he was assailed by the theologians exactly As win by or. Bryan. The teaching of Copernicus has been accepted and the Bible has not been destroyed. It stands higher than Ever in the love and reverence of Mankind. So it will be so it is already with evolution Tor the Bible is not concerned with science. It uses to scientific and geographical ideas of each age to convey religious truth. Has advantages. But while there is no occasion for heat and anger and no justification for turning evolutionists out. Of schools or pulpits. Or. Thought evolutionists while without the slightest desire to ban ant evolution might think the evolutionary theory Roro favourable to christianity. 1. Because it makes christianity at Home in the modern world nothing could be More tragical than that the educated youth of Christendom should think that they cannot be at once Loyal to their intelligence and Loyal to Christ. Fortunately we May be confident that they will not accept such a ghastly alternative. 2. It is Fiore encouraging. I a pair fresh from the hands of god perfect in body and mind could almost the first Day wreck themselves and the race what Security Ever in heaven 3. Evolution kindles a great there has been no fall. It has been a Long slow Bard but steady climb up wards. And no one can Loo Loback with out feeling the world a in its infancy. But All that future.
