Conlin Uca from to be rather Light except for a few Good crops and Barley also is Best when. Late. The sown Barley often Shoys thin stand and poor beads the top and Trot Tom spikelets of the head being withered to Mere hairs. There had been Hail damage in the Pine. Bluer District a wheat. Field showing almost total loss and a Rye crop being about half Down. The Greasy state of the trails in the Valley made a Detour inadvisable so the exact extent of the Hail Belt was not found out. Is Joy to behold commencing at the real Swan River Valley crop unfolded it self and it a Joy to behold. Tho wheat acreage is an immense portion of the crop whole Fields of it often extending in almost succession for Long and its Quality Tbs year makes it a most encouraging sight. The stands Are nearly All tall and very thick the Heads Long and from 14 to is spikelets with three berries in most of them. Thare is rust enough to do a Little damage to grades in Many instances but it is rather less than in the South. There is practically no Sawfly. While some the wheat is a week at least from Ripen ing Thero is lots that will soon coma in in two or three Daye. The Oats average splendidly also being tall and thick enough to look like miniature forests in Many cases. Tho earlier Oats Are not so Good but there arc. Potential 70 and 80 Bushel yields in some of the others. The Best arc Well filled in tha milk stage. Bui Ley varies As usual but also shows excellent crops. It is a. Prey to Tho local weeds wild Oats sow Thistle Couch grass and Canada this the to to greater extent than either of the others appear to be but by no Means in All cases. Among other crops seen was a held of Timothy in Stook possibly for seed As it was past Tho Hay stage. Several strips of breaking some on Prairie and some on sown pasture Sod were seen during the tour which took in the Man Leonaa Swan River Cotton Creek Thunder Hill Benito Durban and Kenville districts. Livestock plentiful i saw More sheep in this District than in All Tho previous trips and cattle and pigs seemed to dispute the Rig lit of Way with greater fre Quency. The Garden stuff is splendid and the prospects of Ripe Corn seem Good in Many instances. Tho Grain Fields show a greater tendency to mixed varieties than i have noticed elsewhere As Marquis i bearded wheat and club wheat were All found in one fluid the latter being impurities some Sweet Clover was to be seen but no flax. Tile growth of red and White Clover Over the1 roadsides is very luxurious and a much plea Anter sight than the usual weeds. On thursday a route was followed from Asci Hills through Dauphin ochre River and . Rose do lao South by Laurier to Kelwood East and South to Glens la and South by Tenby flu Mas and Ogilvie to glad Stone. Throughout tha run the sow Thistle which occurs Down the Ridge Road from Swan River in varying degree gets worse until it vies with the plagues of Egypt for suitable adjectives to Don Cribe it. The wild Oats also persists. The condition which gave this calamitous pair a Chance to overrun the crop was excessive wet in the Spring and during june. The crops were nearly All delayed until the weeds got away. The very late one sown after cultivation bad destroyed some of the weeds look much Tho Bernst and will yield Well it the Frost holds off another two weeks. Around Dauphin a wed Dauphin the prevailing cot edition is not seen at its worst there Are some Good crops of All the main grains. Mostly Tho stand is rather Patchy very weedy and with not much filling in the Heads. Three Miles Southeast the French Brothers farm stands out As a Model of beautifully kept crop. Part of it is Farmed under the Dominion illustration farm scheme but the whole1 is an eloquent demonstration. An acre of Alfalfa was Cut a month ago and yielded heavily. The remaining crop is in excellent shape although rather Pijue and a sight to Soe with its cultivated edges. For the rest of the route into Gladstone the Prospect Are less Bright. Most Fields show Tho effects of water killing or Patchy stand from wet ground and masses of weeds. Some Good crops Are to be seen near Laurier South of Ste. Rose and Westward on the Riding Mountain slopes out of. Kelwood but As a Rule the yields Here will be poor. There is a lot of plough no under of prop the Thistle Lias choked in to badly to be Worth cutting. Fields of buckwheat seen that Hail not fulfilled their Mission of com not Tang with it. Some Sweet Clover and a Field of. Alfalfa doing Well Aind a mixed crop of wheat and flax showed Good Promise. Like most of the other wheat the rust was bad on it. There were num Bers of wheat crops that were comparatively clean of weeds and. Looked very Well but they too were Rusty and rather late.
