The parimutuel will oper ate both tuesday and wednesday wednesday s sport programme will include a baseball tournament to Gether with the judging of High class jumpers and High steppers and the Farmers race. The latter two events with the judging of the four and six horse teams and Hie biggest livestock Parade Ever staged at this fair will be part of the evening s programme. Six six horse teams Are scheduled to appear this number appearing Only twice in the history of Western fairs. It is claimed. The cartage com Pany had first three year old first yearling and first second and third in the Mare or gelding any age. Win ners in this last class were Bradwell King and Elgin in the order named. T. H. Lytle was fourth with major Lytle also securing second for year old. Mccartney Bros were second Cor three year old and j. J. Mcarthur of por Tage first for two year Olds. Agricultural classes More Competition existed in the agricultural classes each of which was Well contested twelve appearing in the held Mare or gelding class which was considered the Best Competition of the Day. Results from it were All in favor of t. H. Lytle. Who took off first second and third the fourth to ing to w. Crichton of Binscarth. Seven Brood mares and foals appeared the most in this class at Portage Lor Many years. Crichton stood first Here with race of Binscarth. Second j. J. My second Mccartney. In the two year Olds j. Henning Portage was first Mccartney Bros., second j. J. Mcarthur third and Mcleod fourth. In . Mcarthur stood first Crichton second and third and Mcleod fourth these two classes were Well contested. In the foal class troop took first Mcarthur second Rice and Crichton fourth. Lyttle was awarded the ribbon for Best Mare or gelding any age in the agricultural classes. General purposes entries in the general purpose classes were Light. W. Gould Portage had the Only Brood Mare with foal at Side Chun. Wishart. Portage took first for three year old filly or gelding with w. Gould second the latter also win Ning tin two year old class without Competition. F. A. Brycton had Besl foal with Gould second. Hereford cattle Hysop and sons Killarney Man., had no competitor in the herefords at All and with a Complete entry in Al classes took All Money. His Bull prime made a Good Cham Pion nevertheless As did the cow lady these two were backed up with a Fine Herd of younger stuff which would have taken some beating. Tied polls three competitors appeared in the bed polls namely. Geo. Wilkinson Brandon w. J. Mccomb Brandon and Mcleod -Bros., of Long turn. Both championships went to Mccomb. Who also secured the special for the Cham Pion red poll of the exhibition donated by the Manitoba red poll cattle club. The showing of red polls was prob ably the biggest the Portage fair has had. With the Quality of the showing very High indeed. Ayrshire cattle e. E. Mortson. Was the Only exhibitor of Ayrshire cattle and carried off the prize opposition although with the Quality of cattle which he exhibits he could have stood considerable. Mortson had a fill string with entries in practically every class. His aged Bull and cows Are especially Good. Ill Stcin cattle w. J. Hepburn Virden. Man., had Little opposition in Holstein cattle and swept the Board with the exception of first place in aged bulls in which he had no entry and second place imaged cows and a third for bulls. These placings went to e. L. Kitchen talc Volle. For the Bull the other two to Harry Stephens of Portage. Hep Burn also had almost a Complete Herd and Many excellent individuals. Sheep Hampshire and suf Folk sheep were judged today. _ Cham j. St. James members of Muni Cipal Board object to mennonite settlement objecting to mennonites As clinging to ways that were not Canadian Mem Bers of the Winnipeg municipal and suburban Board hesitated last evening when offered an acre for the 110 acre plot in the municipality of Jamas formerly owned by sir Henry Pellatt and better known As the old Rifle Range. The mennonites for whom the offer was made had not been in. Canada and were not of the newer generation it was said and the mat ter was referred to the St. James local meeting of the Board july in. The offer was made on behalf of a Small Syndicate. The property had been assessed for for a number of years and recently had reverted to the Munici Pality of St. James through tax Sale proceedings. The offer to take the land and give a payment of immediately Witti a View to divid Fig the parcel Piuto Market Garden plots of four and five acres each was Well received by the Board until it transpired that the offer was being made with a View to placing thereon a Colony of mennonites. The St. James members of the Board immediately protested that any Colony of foreign speaking people should be permitted in the Community. The mennonites were a Good people hard working honest and Thrifty said h. A. Mackay. But he is of the opinion that they Clung too closely to the ways that were not Canadian and some of the older communities were said to live in unsanitary conditions. Newfoundland Forest fire St. Johns xfld., july Forest fire advancing along a front estimated at three Miles in length on the North Ern Side of Gander Bay threatened the Little Village of Carmanville and other parts of the Fogo District with destruction today.
