Prom experiments already made both in the United states Ami Canada it is reasonable to believe that by crossing these Grade ram Bouillet ewes with Good rams More efficient uses of horses in Manitoba by ii. B. Somme held . Manitoba agricultural College one Way to increase profits is to lower the Cost of production. The use of both More efficient horse hitches and larger horse unite will increase the amount of work one Man con do per Day which under conditions such As prevail in Mani Toba where the Cost or Man labor is a major Factor reflects itself in lowered production costs. Farm profits Are determined by the yield per acre selection of most profitable crops and livestock the Bolt openings 3-16 of an Inch. The rope or strap extending from the Bach Down to the draw Cha n or to the Trace of the horse next inside is 6 feet 2 inches in int rvs plus the Large snap which fastens into the draw Chain. This Largo snap is 4v2 inches Ion with Bolt open inv 14 Inch wide and the Cir of pinup is a in the Clear so that h rides easily on a 5-16 draw Chain. Too Small a snap Here will cause disaster As it will not ride freely in o pull on the draw Chain but will stick out straight to the Side it will be easily broken. The tie chains Are the Ordinary Light weight Halter chains 414 feet Long with a snap at each end. They arc attached to the halters of the rear horses and to the race chains of the horses diagonally ahead and Are so adjusted As to length As to re f quire the horses to turn to right or left when the leaders turn. Organization of an old hitch adopt ing the principle of the new or constructing a Complete new is comparatively inexpensive. Any Man who is Handy with tools May construct his own set. Many of the pieces Are Short and May be made from old broken four horse Ovenden and other Timber on the farm for blowing the four and orse hitch tandem is designed for the plow Wagon Wotli trailer and Binder. To hitch horses abreast on plow is not the Best hitch since it Means either consid Erable Side draft or that some of the horses must walk on the slowed land. This hitch also takes considerable of the Side draft away when used of f. Binder. It is a hitch that is much cooler and makes for greater Comfort to the horses than when driven abreast. The five and six horse hitches Are designed primarily for blowing and Are so constructed that Side Dratt is eliminated. The five horse hitch is unique in that to is designed to drive two horses behind and three in front. The Back pair of the five horse hitch Are much More Comfort Able than when three Are hitched be Hind and two in. Front. It is much cooler for the Back horses and pro Vides an excellent place to work in foal Mare or a Green Colt. The eight and twelve horse hitches May be classed As of the larger Type. No doubt the kind of unit that will become More common As time goes on. They Are used on ail types and combinations of implements. They have a wide adaptation and Are used on three and four Bottom plows wide cultivation and seeding machinery and the Combine threshers and har vesters.
