16 Manitoba to feet press Satej Juday August Friday s Grain livestock and produce wheat came Friday to score appreciable gain strength at Liverpool started the Advance and local buying kept prices up Grain Exchange Winnipeg aug. 23. Wheat displayed strength from Start to finish Friday morning and at the close of trading the Market showed net gains of 3 to 3% cents for the Day. A Sharp upturn at Liverpool started the Market on its upward course and in the first hour prices registered gains of 214 to 3% cents Over the previous close. In this period there was Excel Lent buying of october wheat against sales of its december with elevator interests arid a Large Canadian concern credited with the bulk of the operations. Iid session found the pit a Dull spot with very Little business passing but prices continued to hold the gains and in the last hour when a Little More buying developed on strength at Chi Cago the Market was run up to top Levels or about cents Over thurs Day s final figures. Trade volume for the Day was not Large but the under tone of the Market was much firmer with the erratic and nervous feeling so Manifest thursday missing. Export business in Canadian wheat was Small and did not reflect in the local pit to any extent but wires from Seaboard confirmed sales of United Scaks hard Winter wheat. Argentina continues to get the lion s share of the world Trade and this week was Able to Clear bushels which is More than the forecast of total Clear ances from both Canada and the United states. Liverpool s strength was attributed to the unfavourable news from the Argentine which ran the shorts to cover there is no break in the weather in South America and deterioration is Leared in important areas unless Rains come soon. A reduction of acres in the area seeded to wheat last year is predicted and this would seriously curtail yields quite apart from the loss that will be caused by Lack of rainfall. The port strike at Rosario continues but it is apparently not interfering much with the movement of wheat and cables intimate that communistic agitators Are having difficulty in keep ing the strikers away from work. Advices from Australia Are to the effect that Rains this month have materially benefited the crops and while prospects Are not yet Good they Ere much better than they have been. It is estimated in reliable quarters however that Australia will do very Well to raise bushels of i wheat and at least half that amount would be absorbed in Home require ments. Wheat shipments from Australia this week total bushels. Cash wheat Market there was a fair demand for the various grades of Cash wheat during the morning but offerings were extremely Light and the volume of Busl Ness was restricted on. That account. Spreads generally were unchanged to la better than the previous closing differences. There was also a. Small interest shown in Drums at spreads unchanged hut no business i was confirmed done.
