In View of the rapidly increasing Rise of the combined Harvester Thresher in the Prairie provinces of Canada it is very interesting to note what or. W. E. Grimes of the department of agricultural economics. Manhattan. Kansas had to say recently to a gathering of scientific agriculturists it Winnipeg with regard to the changes that have followed the use of this machine in the great Plains Region or the United states. Tracing the use of the machine in that territory Back to 1017, or Grimes went on to show that its introduction had. Resulted in changes in farm conditions that Ore far reaching in their consequences. It had affected not Only the economic life of the people but the social and political life As Well. Conditions in these Plains have been favourable for the use of the and harvesting costs very considerably cheapened. Less labor is required the operation is accomplished in less time and other farm world is facilitated by its use. Figures were produced to show that costs became relatively less As the area to be harvested increased giving the operators of larger farms a Dis Tinct advantage Over the Farmers with a smaller acreage and resulting in a movement toward larger farms. Prior to the Advent athe combined Harvester Thresher thousands of farm their wheat acreage. This is done by reducing the acreage devoted to other crops in some instances but More frequently by renting or purchasing additional land. The result is evident throughout the great Plains Region.
