Graded separately and excluded from the statutory grades known no. 1 hard no. 1 Northern and no. 2 Northern. This has been determined by an act of parliament passed on june 15, and thus ends a controversy that has raged around the Canadian Grain Trade for a number of years. The Bill amending the Canada Grain act establishes statutory grades for Garnet wheat and defines two grades to be known As no. 1 and no. 2 Canadian Western Garnet. The Defini Tion of these grades is set out in the Bill As follows no. 1 . Garnet shall have a minimum weight per Bushel of 60 ibs. And shall contain 65 per cent of hard vitreous kernels. The Standard of Quality Calls for Well matured Grain practically free from damaged kernels. It must be free of foreign matter other than Cereal grains and must be practically free of durum wheat and must not include More than 5 per cent of other cheats including durum. No. 2 . Garnet will have a minimum weight of 58 ibs. To the Bushel and must contain 50 per cent hard vitreous kernels. In Quality it must be reasonably Well and reasonably free from damaged i kernels. Only about one be cent mixture of Cereal grains is permitted one per cent of durum and a total of 10 per cent of other cheats including durum my Grade to. 3 Northern. The amended act does not exclude Garnet wheat from no. 3 Northern or i the grades lower but in the past Gar j net wheat receipts have of themselves been fairly High a Grade and it is believed that the two new grades will take care of this variety in an average year. Any wheat failing to qualify for no. 1 no. 2 . Garnet can go into nos. 3 and 4 Northern or the Commer Cial grades of 5 and 6 wheat or it May be that under unusual Circum stances the Grain standards Board will set up special grades. General satisfaction Over the contemplated change in grading is expressed by the Canadian Millers and by overseas buyers who have been anxious to see Garnet wheat kept out of High Grade Manitoba. The Winni Peg Grain Exchange is prepared to help Garnet wheat establish its mar Ket value and when the new grading comes into effect it is understood provision will be made for its delivery on the Winnipeg contract at penalties to be fixed. The Date the change in grading has been deferred to season 1935 for this purpose and to enable Farmers to change Garnet seed for the of other varieties in cases where this is desired. In other words he did not think it Likely that there was any secret hiding Hole fit Ted into the Wall or floor or Selling. A question to the owners put apparently by a dealer trying to please a collector had negatived the idea that he possessed any article of furniture or old picture Frame with a secret drawer or concealed space in it All this might not have been True of the House in Palace Green and Pointer determined to do his Best to avoid having to search it too. He had Al ready sent a window cleaner and a Gas inspector to look Over the Flat but each had found the maid beside them All the time of round. It was a Stormy Day threatening to grow worse. As he pulled up he saw lights in the Flat above mrs. De Souza s belonging As he knew to a Young actor manager. Asking for him he and his companion were Al Lowed to pass up. A luncheon party was on. Pointer decided he could Chance it. So he and inspector Watts walked up the stairs and stopped at the floor below. A twist with his master key and they stepped into the Flat and shut the door behind them. He had a search warrant but he did not want to use it. The two men worked swiftly and carefully after an hour and a half they looked at one another. They had found nothing. It was possible that mrs. Do Souza supposing her to be the supplier of the Poison As Pointer did might have kept her Supply in some other place but he expected it to be within easy reach. The Flat was not abandoned. Nor was it difficult to search. Some thing about the paucity of personal belongings suggested that mistress and maid were More or less prepared to leave quickly. He knew from the expert that the Poison would probably be in powder form Putty coloured pow Der with a faint smell As of horse around whom the Yard s suspicions gathered.
