Pio Neer resident of Manitoba and former resident of Orillia ont. Died at the Home of her daughter mrs. F. Ferguson. Elm Grove. Mrs. Perry settled in Plympton with her family in 1900. She is survived by 12 sons one daughter 35 grand children and eight great grand children also two Sisters. The funeral service was conducted tuesday. April 26, by Rev. T. Neville assisted by Rev. Or. Royal. Interment took place in the family plot at Moose nose cemetery. Six grandsons Theodore and Earle Ferguson and Raymond Grant and Edgar Perry acted As pallbearers. Oppose amalgamation Kamsack sask. April 30 special employees of the Canadian National railways have formed an association to study propaganda be ing spread for amalgamation of the j Liberat fortress. Planners worry conservatives convention generals fear Harridge Stevens pact this is the third in a series articles analysing the shifting political scene in Canada by Chester a. Bloom Ottawa april 29. Struggle Between the collective and old style individualist politicians in the conservative july convention will not be Clear Cut. As always in such economic and political schisms fundamental differences will be obscured by War ring personalities and personal interests. Nevertheless the main Issue of How far government shall go in planning directing and con trolling the state Economy is Plain enough. In the convention management the planners Are Only a Corporal s guard their strength is outside the regular ranks. It lies in the fact that the party generals need their reinforcements to storm the whig there Are two possible leaders of the planners. Of Coop children when i m away and remew8fr Canadian railways which they oppose. George Driver delivered a hour by d. Herri Daft Borrner paper on alleged injustices with Canadian minister to the . He which the Canadian National rail Way is confronted. He gave an out line of the various branches of ser vice and the financial Structure of the two railways. Fever the Wall paper Cossi is in the prime of life with an inherited gift of oratory on fire with the idea of curing economic ills by collective state action. The other is Hon. H. H. Stevens Leader of the bolting conservative reconstructionist in the 1935 election. If or. Stevens can get seated in the convention As a Delegate co operation of the two is not beyond possibility. But the if is a big one. The former prime minister it. Hon. Or. Stevens votes. The old world Charm a. Its name is ton i and it has the old world i Charm of those Lovely French Gar i Dens where Louis Xiv played with j the Carp in the Marble Pond while j the world rolled by. The paper has a creamy Buff ground with heavy stucco embossing. Group Ings of xviii Century Flowers in Pale Green yellow and Burnt Orange and foliage in faint Browns and Whites surround the Small Temple d amour with its Marble balustrades done in transparent White and Bright Gold. An unobtrusive scroll panelling binds the design together. The pattern cleverly suggests without picturing those formal but delightful old r. B. Bennett holds undying hostility to or. Stevens blames conservative defeat on Stevens defection and will agree to or. Stev ens taking part in the Conven Tion Over the Bennett dead body. But the party captains will have something to say about that they Are thinking of party managers scoff at the possibility of either or. Herridge or or. Stevens becoming their National Leader but they shiver at the thought of a possible fighting Alli outside the United front Ance Between them party appealing to a of collectivists. Their task is to conciliate both write some evasive or ambiguous paragraphs in a declaration of principles to mollify them and re unite the party. Or. Bennett himself May be expected to give the planning ideas a mild Blessing in his speech of litre Well to politics he could not As the original collectivist broadcaster Well do otherwise. But it is certain that in the eyes of or. Stevens at least the former prime minister is Only a half hearted convert to dictatorial political control Over business. Dur ing sessions of the present Parlia ment or. Bennett As opposition Leader has Given Little evidence of renewed desire to pursue the theme of his famed radio speeches against capitalism As is. No penitent or. Stevens Burns with indignation at failure of the government to Cope with private corporative greed. He is in the Public prints on the subject. If he comes into the conservative convention it will not be As a penitent hat in hand but breathing fire to write collectivism reforms into the platform. There s a headache for the old line politicians they Are dealing with deter mined men who have the ear of the Public in speeches and on the radio. Men who know what they want have specific objectives and Are ready to fight to the Point perhaps of splitting the party. In such a fight the possibility is not to be overlooked that Hon. H. J. Manion might join such a drive it meant leadership of a United party. Such a Trio would be a formidable combination. Or. Manion is the one outstanding conservative a Haj already has pledged backing from Premier Maurice Duplessis Quebec National. Georges Heon m.p., or. Duplessis sole representative in parliament has declared for Manion for Leader. Duplessis is a collectivist of the most extreme fascist corporative state extreme to be Comfort Able for most conservatives. But or. Manion would never leave the party As Stevens did to enforce the views of any such combination. In the kind of Cut Throat struggle com ing up that is a weakness.
