Madeline Dat i love to give you recipes that be our own native wild fruit. In Rte first place this is economical most of us can get out in the a Litte Way and to go Carlo find Saskatoon or Chokecherry is. And we these at just the right either Jelly or Jam so Are re bound to have a Nice finished there Are a Hundred and one afferent ways of using these fruits Are so plentiful and per Vou know most of them but we Are giving today Are a bit different so for that very reason you May like to try them. Take Saskatoon for instance. The grow almost everywhere but these thurs., Fri. And sat. 6 ibs. 290 mort., tues. And wed. Dyers cleaners Many people neglect them be cause they have rather an insipid flavor themselves. But dad you Ever taste a Jam made with Sas Kat Pons and Pincherri juice ifs delicious and in most places both fruits Are just about ready now. Saskatoon Pincherri Jam Wash and pick Over the pin cherries and cover them with Colfi water. Cover the Kettle and boil until the cherries have lost their color and the juice is Rich and red. Drain this through a Jelly bag and return to the fire. Add Saska Toons which have been washed and picked Over. The amount you add depends on whether you like the Jam thick with fruit or More Juicy. But add the berries and i like about 2 cups of them to each cup of the Pincherri boil for about 20 minutes until the berries Are soft then measure the mixture. Add 1 cup sugar to each cup of the fruit and juice and stir until it is dissolved. Cook until the Jam is thick and Rich then pour into hot. Sterile jars and Seal at once. Be sure to Cook the berries in the Pincherri juice until they Are tender before you add the sugar then Cook rapidly after that and no longer than is absolutely necessary for it is Long cooking of the Saska Toon berries with the sugar that makes the seeds hard. I have always added Apple juice to choke cherries when i make Chokecherry Jelly for two reasons. First the cherries will not jell unless you add pectin in some form and also because i think the choke spite of Hyk daily Bath she s an underarm victim safeguard your Charm from underarm mum after every Bath. Cherries Are a Little Strong with out the Apple juice. But if you Don t mind that and would like to make Chokecherry Jelly without extra expense of apples which Are a Little High at this season Here is one Way you can do so. Chokecherry Jelly Wash and pick Over the cherries cover with cold water and Cook until the juice is extracted. Drain this juice through a Jelly bag then measure it and return to the fire. Boil for 10 minutes longer. Now add i Teaspoon tartaric acid to each 4 cups of the juice. Let this boil for a few minutes longer. Add 1 cup of sugar to each cup of the juice. Stir until it is Dis solved then boil rapidly until it tests for Jelly. It takes Only about 10 minutes. Pour into hot sterile glasses and cover with paraffin. You can make an excellent Jelly out of choke cherries and Green cranberries. It has an entirely different flavor from the Ripe fruit and jells very easily. Chokecherry and Green Cranberry Jelly select the choke cherries when they Are just beginning to turn red and the cranberries while they Are quite Green. Wash and pick them Over and boil each one separately in water to cover. Drain the juice arid measure. Allow 1 cup of Chokecherry juice to 2. Cups of the Cranberry juice. Boil for about 20 minutes then add the sugar 1 cup for each cup of the combined juices. Cook rapidly until this jells then pour into hot sterile glasses and cover with paraffin. How Ever he she disapproved of him so strongly that he stopped coming around. She still Thmas that dancing and cards Are wicked. In spite of her objections i Learned to play Bridge a few years ago but she will never let me have a Bridge party and will hardly speak to me if she knows i am going to one. She still wants to know All about where i am going and Al ways Waits up for me acting like a Martyr if i am later than her usual bedtime of 10 o clock. My nerves were very bad this Spring and my doctor advised me to take up Golf. I am enjoying the game More than i Ever enjoyed anything in my life but once More my Mother spoils things. I work Long hours and find it hard to get out More than once or twice a week. However i could get in 18 holes on sundays and still go to Church but my Mother had a fit when i suggested it. The Way she acted you would think 1 was worse than a murderer. She did t speak to me for two Days and what she would do if i actually carried out my plan i tremble to think. Don t you think that a woman of 40 has the right to think for her self especially when she. Does a lot More for her Mother than most girls she is always criticizing me and my friends but she thinks my brother is perfect. He golfs on Sun Days drinks goes to horse races and does Many other things she would condemn if she knew about them and he never gives her anything except a Christmas present yet she thinks a perfect my Mother is and quite healthy. She will probably live a Long time. What would you advise me to do Jane. Even if you played Golf on Sun Days i m. Sure there would be a balance in your favor when the. Recording Angel makes up his books. You have done so much for your Mother that you need t feel at All guilty if you please yourself for a change. Unfortunately forty years of being under her thumb have destroyed your will Power and you have an almost superstitious feeling that it is a sin to Cross her. Try to convince yourself that she owes you As much As you owe. Her and that your feelings Are Asim portent As hers. Your brother could help a lot. Tell him you Are just about at the end of your tether and will walk out and let him look after your Mother in you can t have a better time. His obligation is As great As former lev Christ Church Cathedral Mon Treal was an interest ing wedding Friday at 2.30 ., when Margo Ismena Graydon daughter of Trie late or. They wore wreaths of Blue Cornflower and White Sweet peas miss Helen Daugh Ter of prof and mrs. L. A. H. War Ren has left for Jasper Park alta., where she will spend two months. Yours both morally and legally. If he realized you were in Earnest he would probably agree to Tell our Mother that plenty of decent people play Golf on sunday in eluding himself and that he would like to take you out for a game. As your Mother dotes on him she could t blame you without including the White haired boy and prob ably would accept the fact that you could differ with her and still be fit to live then if you played with other people she could t very Well consider that a worse crime than going with your brother. You should also assert yourself about other things Tell your Mother that keeping up such an expensive establishment is making it. Impossible for you to provide Lor your own old age. Point out that you children to look after you and that it is very unlikely your brother will want to give you a Home. If she sold or rented her House and used the Money to rent a smaller place you would be Able to have More insurance and get something ahead. She May Start to weep and accuse you of consid ering her a Burden but the answer to this is that you want to protect her Pas Well. As yourself by making sure you will income alter you. Stop work. If she still refuses to move you can refuse to pay the taxes telling her she can either let the House go or get Money from your brother. The fits of injured silence must be hard to take. Moving to a hotel for a week would probably be effective if you could bring yourself to do it i would be interested to hear How you get along with your declaration of Independence.
