Elizabeth Thompson before getting married people should always try to find out each other s attitude to Money. There is no greater in compatibility than that Between a spendthrift and a Saver and Happi Ness is virtually impossible. Engaged couples please note this let Ter dear mrs. Thompson it is going to be rather difficult to put a life into a few paragraphs but i value your opinion and want your advice. I am a married woman in my. Early thirties with three Lovely children 13, 10 and 3. My husband is in his forty second year very Good looking with a charming personality. He loves people and a Good time. His Standard of living is that of a a month salary in Stead of Contentment at Home and with his family he has t got. He loves going places and doing things while we Are in a position to do so but we Haven t always been in that position and i would rather plan to live an average life the year round than continue this Way of existence. I think he would too but he seems to Lack stability or something. We seem an Ideal couple when out on a party or with people but alone we have nothing to say and not one thing in common. He can t see my Way and i can t see his. Yet i know from experience that after the first flourish is Over he depends on me. If we have any old friends i realize without conceit on my part it is i who hold them and he think so. There Are times when i am sorry for him others when i think it is All so useless. If i were All alone the situation would be altogether different but with the children it is hard to know what to do. If i had any Way of Patrick Wood Best baby the Winner of the St. Barnabas anglican Church baby show which was held on St. John s College grounds Friday july 15, was Pat Rick Wood infant son of or. And mrs. Wood 97 Inkster Boulevard. Trim coat Jam Are Good by june Horne. The Apricot is demanding the most attention right now for can Ning purposes. For this reason it might be Well to Tell you a Little about Points of Quality in apricots. Well matured apricots Are plump fairly firm and a uniformly Golden Yellowish color. The flesh is Juicy. Usually such fruits Are of Good Fla or. Immature apricots Are usually greenish yellow in color the flesh is firm to hard and by the time they get to Market More or less shrivel ing is evident. The typical Apricot flavor is lacking. Apricots Are very perishable. Fruits that have been bruised or injured deteriorate so quickly that they should be avoided by the housewife. The beginning of decay is usually indicated by softness verging almost to Mushines and a Cress is Green and fresh at 5c a Bunch. Strawberries Are very scarce at 2 boxes for 25c. British Columbia raspberries Are clean and fresh looking at from 2 boxes for 27c to 15c a Box. I saw Only the Ontario gooseberries at from 15c to 20c. A Pound. Blueberries Are dry and plump at from lie to 15c a Pound. Bed currants Are from Loc a Box to 2 boxes for 25c. Black currants Are higher at from 2 boxes for 25c to 2 boxes for 35c. The Santa Rosa plums Are very plentiful at from 2 pounds for 25c to 15c a Pound. Blue tragedy plums Are from 15c to 20c a Pound. Cali fornia seedless grapes Are from 23c to 30c a Pound. Something new. Blackberries or Brambles from British Columbia of Erom 2 boxes for 25c to 15c a Box. For those of you who have some Means of getting out into the coun try i would like to say tha Saskatoon and pin cherries Are just right for picking and they Only Cost the Effort of gathering them earning my living i would gladly work As i realize i am not getting any younger and feel i would love o have Security for my later years and the children s education. I presume we will always get by but t is a nerve wracking Way to live. Would you advise me to take a course in something or just stay lome and realize a Man of that age cannot change much i have great ambition and feel that i and All concerned would be i happier if had some other interest we have lived from coast to coast and i am tired of moving a round. The children hate it also. If i had any Means of earning a Little i could eel i would t have and therefore my husband would have o stick it As i am sure he will never s me Uncertain. Lots of people have Champagne tastes and Beer incomes. Your husband is certainly not unique but that does t make it any easier for a woman of your temperament to live with him. As you married very Young and he was considerably older than you it was natural for you to assume that e would be reliable. Undoubtedly a Man of his age is not Likely to change much. Have you Ever considered changing a ittle yourself you Are younger and More adaptable. Perhaps if you studied him you could make yourself share some of his interests. And if you showed appreciation of Lis Good Points he would be More open to suggestion. If you like the town where you Are now try to build up a pleasant social life there and get your husband interested in activities where he could Shine and feel important then he might by glad to Stop moving and Settle Down. His advancing age is also in your favor. People approaching the Middle years Are More interested in Security than Ever before and the most reckless feel apprehensive when they think of the last pay Cheque. Men of 42 Don t change jobs lightly. Could you get your husband interested in retirement income insurance some men Are too selfish to carry insurance for the Sake of their wives and families but when they see it would Benefit themselves they think it a Fine idea such insurance would also be Protection for you and the children in Case your husband died before reaching retirement age. Having an obligation like that to meet regularly would be another Anchor holding him in one place. How Ever if the question of moving comes up again flatly refuse to go if your husband called your Bluff and moved anyhow he have to support you but he May no know that or May not be Able to face determined opposition. Unless you have some Market Talent taking a course would no be much use. Your Best bet is to work at the Job of handling your husband cleverly to increase i earning Power at the same time developing professional skill As a Cook and housekeeper. That would always be a Means of earning you iving if necessary. The two older children will be Able to work m a new years and you could support he youngest for a while without much difficulty. However i Hope t won t be necessary. Strapless bathing suits Are seen frequently on the beaches this Ummer.
