Playfair Mackechnie of Toronto ont., has arrived to spend a few weeks in Winnipeg with her son in Law and daughter or. And mrs. Marsden Harris. Having Amy girl friends by mrs. Elizabeth Thompson ome women suffer agonies. Of jealousy when their sons first show an interest in girls. Others hate to see the boys becoming girl conscious because they Hope to Benefit from their earnings. Certainly the boy who wrote this letter is justified in suspecting that his Mother s Atti tude is not unselfish. He says dear mrs. Thompson i am a Young Man of 19 earning my own living As Well As learning a Trade. My Mother objected to my going out with girls a year ago saying that i was too Young to have anything to do with them. I agreed with my. Mother and did t go out with a girl for nearly a year. But two months ago i met a girl a year younger. Than myself whom i love dearly. I told my Mother about this girl arid she said for me to Stop going with her right away. I asked her Why and she said because the girl was of a different nationality. I told my girl Friend about this and she says i am not too Young to go out with girls also that it s crazy for my Mother to think of her nationality that Way. Please advise me what to do As i think you Are nearly always right. John. Keep on going with the girl but try hard to please your Mother in other ways. It should be possible to convince her that you Are an affectionate and Dutiful son even though you As Sert your right to think for your self. Undoubtedly you Are too Young to get married but you Are not too Young to have girl friends and earn something about feminine Luman nature. In fact it would Lave been Good for you to associate with girls from mud pie Days Onward. When boys grow up with Sisters or girl chums there is no false Glamor about the oppo site sex and they Are Likely to be fairly Good judges of women Mak ing successful marriages As a re or. And mrs. Henrik Johnson of Virden Man in whose Honor a reception will be held sunday at Thek Home when members of their family will gather to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married m Winnipeg spot Ember 19 1888. Hev. Jon Bjarnason performed the ceremony. Mrs Johnson was formerly Oddney Asgeir Dotter and was born and brought up at Dundurn in Borg Afirdi Iceland. Or. Johnson was born and brought up in is Afirdi Iceland. They have children. Mrs Harry easy Virden Asgeir Johnson Guelph ont mrs g. Edwards Calgary Laura of Melita Man. Gustave a Sheridan v o a Extin Ninatti grandchildren. And since retiring from farming have made their Home m Virden. Mrs Johnson s sister mrs. Zinnur Winnipeg will join their family on this Golden anniversary. On the other hand when boys grow up knowing nothing Abou girls they Haven t the same perspective and Are Apt to go off the deep end Over some designing Lussy. Or Rush to the altar with a silly bit of fluff who will bore them utterly when the first nov Elty has worn off. If your Mother really Hac your interests at heart she would encourage you to go out in mixed company and have girl friends however it be better to be slightly interested in several girls Han deeply interested in one ant Lor your own Sake you should try to broaden out a Little. I m sure your Friend is very Nice and agree that her nationality does make a bit of difference if you were both brought up in Canada but after All she is the first Gir Rou have known. You Don t wan of become serious about her until you have looked around and Dis covered How other girls affect you Tell her that you Don t think a Joy has any right to monopolize a girl until he has some Prospect of being Able to get Anc you want her. To go out with other boys if she likes this attitude will make it quite logical for you to go out with other girls if you take the notion your Mother would be less Wor ried about you if you had a series of girl friends but. If she is. The jealous possessive Type she Wil late to share you with any other woman and you can rest assure she will always have some Faul to find with any girl you favor no matter How Beautiful virtuous and accomplished she May be keep this in mind when she pick Laws. However her objection May be on economic. grounds. Plenty of parents who have had a hard struggle bringing up their families look Forward to the Day when the Young people will be earning and helping out a Home. Your Mother May be alarmed about losing you jus when you might be Able to Maki her lot easier. You certainly should help her i she needs assistance though Yoi Don t need to do More than you share or. Assume More than reasonable responsibility. Make Clear that. You have no intention of deserting her. Also try to her believe that you Admire am appreciate her even though Yov like a girl1 too. It will take a to of doing to make her accept the new state of if you a tactful and diplomatic i think Yoi can succeed.
