Winnipeg free press monday june 26, 1939 heavy flow of Gas struck by Shaw Petroleum Well in Lloydminster District pressure is overcome by drillers who Are now sinking equipment to greater depth in search of Oil Lloydminster Alta., june important Gas strike was made at the Shaw Petroleum Well one mile West and three quarters of a mile South of Lloydminster Early sunday morning. The flow is estimated to be Over 250.000 cubic feet of natural Gas a Day. With a pressure of 360 pounds. Due to the Gas flow j and pressure the drillers experienced a lot of difficulty in carrying on drilling operations As the Gas was forcing the drilling fluid out of the Hole As fast As it could be run in. The pressure has now been overcome and drilling operation Are now being carried on in search of Oil which is expected at the 1.950-foot level. Or. R. L. Shaw the managing director states that this strike is considered of great importance As it covers a Large area that is known to be Gas producing covering about 50 Square Miles and although this Gas has been picked up in All the Wells in the Lloydminster Field ranging from to cubic feet a Day in volume leading geologists state that somewhere in the area the Sand will thicken to yield a commercial production of exceptional Long life. It appears irom this strike that the Sands Are thickening to the Southwest of Lloydminster. To the North of the Shaw Petroleum Well at the Lloyd Minster royalties no. 1 Well the same Gas was struck at the same horizon and Wes estimated to have a flow of cubic feet a Day. This adds another commercial Gas horizon in the Lloydminster Field or. Shaw states. One of the largest natural Gas Wells in the British Empire the Colony Oil and Gas company s no. 1 Well is producing from the level and other Wells in this Field Are producing from the 1.976-foot level. Oil has been found in the Field at 1.700 Lloydminster royalties no. 1 Well is estimated to produce 250 barrels a Day from the level. This Well is half a mile North of the Shaw Petroleum. The Lloydminster Field is fast be coming one of the outstanding Gas my Oil Fields in Western Canada. One of the important factors in the future development of this Field is the use of the natural resources Gas and Oil to develop Power. The new Gas strike was studded in May ii. Stocks and Bonds Winnipeg Winnipeg stocks opened the week with a Light volume of Trad ing that offered no movement away from the faint interest shown in the Exchange towards the close of the previous week. Three stocks appeared in the morning proceedings. Flin flon changed hands at where it was bid on saturday. Gurney Gold sold Down to the previous bid quotation at 5, and Hiram Walker preferred completed the slate with 50 shares at 20.00.
