It was difficult to confirm All of these May sales in Winnipeg Export circles hut it was believed that a substantial business including at least two cargoes representing slightly More than bushels had been taken. Winnipeg wheat prices How Ever failed to respond aggressively to the Large transactions and moved narrowly to finish vac to higher. The May was quoted at 87c. The bulk of the Large russian business appeared to have been transacted late tuesday with Garnet grades mentioned As being taken As there Are sufficient stocks of these classifications in store at the Pacific coast to cover the sub Stantial sales reported. The russian transactions overshadowed other developments such As the australian sales to Japan and american Veather reports which showed further Snow in the United states Winter wheat Belt and a forecast for cold wave in Kansas. The United states government report noted Little change in conditions but was Given a mildly bullish interpretation by Chicago which advanced quite aggressively in the last half of the session with some Eastern buying reported in the Southern Market. Dealings at Winnipeg were featureless with moderate Seaboard demand in evidence in the Early stages and scattered Mill purchases reported although it was difficult to confirm any flour sales of account. Offerings were generally Light and values rallied modestly in a flurry of activity on commission House buying when Chicago moved up. Buenos Aires gave indications of steadiness after a wobbly Start Al though prices fluctuated erratically opening a cent lower and losses of one cent showing at 10.45, there was borne recovery and by noon values were Only to is cent Down. Most the weakness in the South Ameri can Market has been due to hedging pressure of new crop which is now moving freely to Market. Weathei1 conditions on wednesday were unfavourable for harvesting with Gen eral Rains reported. Cabled despatches from Australia were of a constructive character with sales of austra Lian wheat to Japan reported in the neighbourhood of bushels. This business and the recent Large British sales a Long Way in solving Australia s problem in the disposal of her surplus. Cash wheat was quiet on wednesday with shippers picking up a few cars of the lower grades which included three and four Northern and five wheat. A sizable lot of two Northern however was re ported taken for the opening of navigation. Offerings continued Light in the coarse grains with the top grades of Oats in demand for the Domestic Trade. Exporters were absorbing what offerings of Barley were coming out. Fair Export buying in Barley sent prices up. Mills were doing some buying of Oats it was said and there were some spreading operations Between the May and july. Spreading with wheat featured the Light Trade in Rye.
