Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - January 19, 1940, Winnipeg, Manitoba Page eighteen Winnipeg free press Friday january. 19, 1940 win scrappy game to take Lead i scores three goals by Scott Young Kenora thistles battered their Way through a barrage of blood and argumentation to the top of the Junior South division thursday night but Baldy Northcott s rangers put up a better show than the 6-3 score against them would imply. There were no major injuries and no fights but several players came out of the game bearing skate and stick wounds and the air was a constant Blue from the snarls of verbal belligerents. Rangers managed to match Eddie Dartnell s three goals until Midway in the third when Dick Milford broke the deadlock for Good while Jack Hobson was serving one of two disastrous Ranger Milford Cut across inside the Blue line incl picked a top Corner for the goal that the game. Later with goals by Doug Lewis and Vic Lofvendahl Manly results of defensive laxity in hangers desperate ganging tactics. Juda. Hanton Milford and Hob son were among the Many who came out of the game bearing the cuts and gashes of combat.
