Making arrangements for Evans Centenary at the meeting of the Manitoba United Church conference in Knox Church Here Early in june a picture of Rev. After attending charterhouse school London he entered per broke College Oxford. When. Ordained he went As a curate to a Parish in the poorer part of wind Sor. His whole heart was Given to teaching the congregation of his ittle Mission Church the meaning of the Church prayer Book. His people made of him a Friend. His father was the Rector of the old Parish of St. Paul s Haggerstone it was a very poorly endowed Parish the Revenue being Ess than a year. After being at Windsor a Little while John Stone Felt that his very lard worked father needed More icly it was his duty to go. So he resigned from Windsor and Joi Riec Lis father at Haggerstone working As his father s curate without remuneration. Father and son used every Effort of build a Church and schoolhouse also a vicarage. This was accomplished the Parish became a thriving place then in 1874 his father died. He was appointed to take his place As vicar. John Stone was a poet As Well As a scholar. He had Many and various works to his name. He was also a member of the committee of hymns ancient and modern. In 1890 he became Rector of the ancient Church of All hallows on London. The site on which once stood a carthusian monastery it is better known to us As Aldersgate Street. He was Only there for 10 years. He died at the age of 61. This Well known hymn he wrote when at Haggerstone in 186b. It a the result of a controversy going on in South Africa.
