This year with All the american athletes deprived of the Opportunity of competing at the olympics they will be striving to Excel themselves in the Mcaa there May even be world records broken. If not it is thought there will be some that will Only be missed by a fraction. In 1938 i saw a High jump event which was equal to Ever held olympic included. Good name logo buy wednesday i was at the Winnipeg Canoe club championship events. T found most of the Ace Tennis players were Busy playing in the inter club matches with a result that i saw very few feminine matches. Lona Wilson and Grace Harling were heading Down to Deer Lodge while Trine Cook was with the group going to wild Wood. However the tournament seemed to be faring very Well. The 59 singles players were gradually being narrowed Down and the four seed a players Phoebe Williams Winnie Barnes Irene Cook and Marion Schofield Cannon were still playing up to expectations. In the doubles it was expected Virmie and Phoebe w Ould have a Tough Battle especially from such pairs As Agnes Hart and Lona Wilson and Irene Cook and Marion n the golfers were playing in their monthly medal Competition. It was in 1931 and 1932 that Bass were planted by him in these lakes and today anglers Are catching Bass up to six pounds. The reason i m publishing Mike s re port is to show the possibilities of the stocking programme under taken by the provincial govern ment. In an attempt to Stock Mani Toba with Small Mouth Bass 60 adult fish have been planted in Lake Vathap Puskow. South of flin flon. The Plant make in Vermil Ion lakes was 137 adult Bass. The Bass have taken a Strong foothold in these lakes and to Day from that 137 adult fish it is now estimated that 000 fish Are in the Lake. This piece of stocking will make his tory for Ontario fishing. N Mike s letter read in part the feed of the Lake is equalizing itself As the Bass have been cleaning up on our Perch and they Are the Only egg eater with the exception of suckers possibly. Those spot tailed minnows Salmon Trout the remaining Perch the muskies etc., eggs Are maturing into new fish and Nur fishing is increasing with leaps and Bounds. The fish we Hatch out Here Are going downstream and now they have Bass close to Sioux Lookout and Lac so we May have Good Small Mouth Bass fishing in Manitoba but it will take a few years for them to become established. A nother Pickerel was entered in the anglers contest run in conjunction with the column by Baldy Northcott s sporting store. This one weighed seven pounds and was caught on a june Bug spin Ner by c. Charman 31 Morrier Street St. Vital and was caught above Maccarthur Falls on the Winnipeg River. Grant Mcgregor Butch Walsh Howard Murphy and Ray Gibson had a Nice Trout catch at Hawk Lake last week end Les Gibson and Harry Erricks Are spending this week in Hawk Lake George Allen of Eaton s Angling club hooked 20 Gold eyes at Lac Dubou Nett Heinie Shaffer Bill nor ton Art Johnson Art Mcgregor or. Simmons Bill Pflaum of Cavalier n.d., fished in the big White Shell Lake last week end and had Good fishing Happy Cowen had Good fishing in White Lake Rod Burgoyne had Good fishing at Lac la ont. Jack Elshout and Stewart Willis got their limit of Pickerel in White Lake. G v of the Pickerel Are running at Lockport. And although the Bass season is not open Many Bass Are being found in the water below the locks. The Pickerel Are being caught on minnows but your Hook must be close to the Bottom. The Rig most of the anglers Aro. Using is to set their weight on a separate line and tie it about three feet above the Hook of their fishing line. This leaves the Hook free to Rise a Little off the Bottom. When you feel your weight hit Bot Tom flick your Rod to keep the bait up. Having been asked what equip ment one needs to Start Angling i have gathered the initial Cost prices. Here they Are you can get a Rod for about a reel for and then six baits at about 25 cents each. These should include two spoons two Wolers. And two plugs. Leaders run about 10 cents each and two will be sufficient. A flax line Sells at 65 cents a tackle Box at ?1.00, and other Odds and ends such As. Weights gut Hooks etc., should Cost about . A Little better equipment will run to about s4.50 for a Rod reel ?5 silk line s2.00, and baits from 25 cents to s1.50. But these Are for the person who has discovered he is keen on Angling. While on that subject it might do to mention what the Best equipment will Cost. Reel Rod. S18.00 tackle Box , and a Large assortment of baits about 5200.00. But this is exceptional. Listen in to Curc every Fri Day at 9.30 ., when i will broadcast further Angling in formation. .p.a.c.
