Care of your children sleep while this column is primarily devoted to child welfare our subject today is adult sleep ing habits. In t straying As far afield As May seem at first thought for bad sleeping habits make bad parents or at least irritable parents. So their sleeping habits have a Good Deal to do with the child s welfare. With adults the biggest problem seems to be f think the biggest cause of insomnia is worrying about i place the word in quotation Marks be cause we Are talking about some thing that in t True insomnia is not common. Every doctor knows the deter mined insomniac Well. And. Ill fact. I think a Good Many families have one around. This person usually a woman but sometimes a Man. Has a regular breakfast topic i did t sleep a Wink All night f heard the clock strike every hour from one boy tells girl How to get a Date by George Antheil. When a girl complains there Are no boys on her horizon i always wonder just what she does to scare them away. Because where charming girl is there is bound to be boy. That is the Way of it girls. Boys Are just As anxious to meet you As you Are to meet them. Just write that Down in your Little notebook. If no boy comes around your door it is because no boy knows you Are hiding out there or from experience the boys know that it would t be much fun to be with you. If you want boy friends just be available where there Are boys. Where is that that in t the right question because that shows your state of mind. Boys Are every where where girls Are when those girls Are in the open. Of course boys Don t Hunt for girls in private Homes when the door is shut against them. A girl asks the old question where can she find boys from her letter you would draw the conclusion she stays at Home All the time. She won t find any boys there lurking under the furniture. Here is her letter dear or. Antheil How does a girl go about meeting boys have parties maybe so. But take my Case for example. I live with my grandparents and they treat me As though i were their own. But our House is not Large enough to enter Tain in fact we have just four rooms. Our household furnishings Are old fashioned and i am not tured shirring from the High Waist ashamed of them but i just Don t s line to the neck and on the sleeves have enough space to entertain. I Don t live near any Young people and i never have a Chance to meet any boys. Of course i realize i still have plenty of time to go out but i would like to go to the movies once in a while As other girls do. I m not pretty but some say i am attractive. I weigh 12g, am 5 feet 3 inches and have Light Brown hair and Grey eyes. I can dance and i like to have a Good time. 1 am 18. So or. Antheil won t you help me and maybe a Hundred other girls who Are in my position by giving a few suggestions As to How go about meeting Reader. You Are a Lazy girl Aren t Youyou just Aren t resourceful and certainly Don t get around much or you would meet boys. What do you i do stay Home and read and wish for a boy Friend Don t you Ever go to parties at the Home of friends or join other Young people skating swimming going to picnics and so Forth j maybe if you would act your age i and circulate around Young people j you might not scare off the Young boys and get one to Date Vou. J this feature appears in the j free press mondays wednes Day and fridays i have had persons Tell me this every Day for years. Yet they were healthy Active people. I remember one woman who continually talked about her Lack of sleep f knew it Vas All in her own mind so one Day t informed her that she was so healthy she did t need As much sleep As others. That was Why she did t sleep All night like other per sons. That cured her. As i expected it would. She just wanted to be talking about herself and when i gave her this theme to talk about she went around telling everyone Tiow healthy she was and How Little sleep she needed. As a matter fact i think most adults sleep too much anyway and so even though you do lose a night or two of sleep it won t do you much harm. There is nothing wrong with you if you Don t sleep As much is you think you should. Probably if you d quit worrying about it you would sleep More. F have found that telling most a tints these simple facts is usually enough to effect a cure unless they arc More advanced cases than the woman referred to above who had to have Lack of sleep As a subject Cor conversation. As i have said myself in these columns sleep is very important in childhood. It is drilled into Chil Dren that they must get plenty of sleep that sleep is essential to them if they Are to grow big and Strong often think that this lesson is drilled into our minds so completely As children that we carry the same sense of its importance into our adulthood and unnecessarily. The reason sleep is so important to Chil Dren is that they grow in their sleep. Once this period of growth is completed then sleep is not so important. Of course adults still need Ade quate rest and sleep especially in these strenuous modern Days when we Burn up so much nervous Energy. But there is no minimum tha we must get in hours i mean. Al we need to do is get enough so tha we Are refreshed and rested next Day. Different people will require different periods. Some people need eight hours a night some need less the persons who come to me say ing that they Only sleep six hours a night Don t worry me As much As those who find that they must sleep ten hours to feel right.
