Run on funds subscribed in Canada and with the help of prominent men and women in this country. Housed in the former London county Council building in gardens close to the admiralty the club expresses the very essence of Comfort and Friendly cheerfulness. Mrs. Vincent Massey is Leader and lady Borrett is chief of the groups of Volunteer helpers under their respective captains. Wife of he distinguished Soldier. General sir Oswald Borrett. Her con Cern for men away from their Home country is shown by the care with which she files the daily news papers from 84 different towns in service in India and in China. Close by the snack bar near the canteen is a Little shop stocked smokes sweets Post cards pens pencils soap shaving pretty Well All the Small things men Are Likely to need not Over looking bottles of aspirin. In the snack bar is the machine which mrs. M. A. Spence makes the famous Canadian dough nuts which the King and Queen sampled when they were at the club. Tea Coffee All kinds of re freshing soft drinks Are obtainable. I had lunch in the canteen and with the boys themselves took my tray gathered up my cutlery and moved along the bar to choose my menu. I could have had roast beef or Lamb with potatoes and peas but chose a very Good egg salad after which i had the Choice of several sweets and then excellent Coffee. I was interested in the Field comforts room in charge of mrs. Mortimer Appleby. It is Well stocked with every kind of Woollen Comfort in the three Blue Khaki and air Force Blue. The biggest demand usually comes after the boys have taken their bathing Parade. They come pattering up often with Bare feet explain that their socks Are worn try on new ones and go out Wear ing them. Then there is the work room where helpers Are now concentrating on equipment for the convalescent Home shortly to be opened in the country. The club Post office May sound rather prosaic but Many a confidential talk takes place there Between the canadians and the sympathetic women in charge. Next door is the information Bureau. On a slate on the Wall is chalked information regarding sleeping accommodation in the Var ious clubs and hostels catering for service men. With the for tingly bed and break fast. Little or. Fred Wray entertained with humorous songs. Tea was served from a table centred with a bowl of peonies and Matching tapers. Mrs. Alfred White and mrs. L. F. Earle poured Tea. Summer officially Here visitors Are arriving in Winnipeg to spend several a weeks and Winni Eggers Are answering the Call of the open Road. It is Holiday time and travel time. Mrs. Howard Spence with her Little daughter Judith is leaving tuesday to join her husband at Trenton ont. Miss Edith Harding was photographed with her Spaniel Mac one afternoon this week in the Garden of Bishop s court. She is leaving by motor saturday with her sister mrs. Paul Davoud to spend a month visiting in Eastern Canada and will go by Way of the United states. Mrs. John Farquhar has arrived with her husband and children Margaret and Jack from Madison wis., and will spend the summer with relatives Here and at the Lake of the Woods. Mrs. M. A.
