Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - April 27, 1944, Winnipeg, Manitoba Page eight suggest King Edward Hospital turned into nursing Home Winnipeg free i Abb thursday april it possibility of converting King Edward memorial Hospital into a convalescent Hospital or nursing Home and constructing an up to Date Sanatorium elsewhere in the grounds of the municipal Hospital loomed in health committee wednesday afternoon. The suggestion came from the Secretary and manager of Munici pal hospitals and without debate to a special commit tee composed of aldermen Hilda Hesson m. , James Black and William Scraba chairman of the health committee. This committee is already study ing the care of the aged and infirm in nursing Homes and the possibility of the City operating its own institutions. Post War plans of the municipal hospitals already include a co Sld Erable sum for the modernization oiling Edward Hospital and the provision of additional Sanatorium facilities a letter from Donald m Cox Secretary and manager pointed out. This amount plus the Cost of the City purchasing a building for a nursing Home elsewhere would cover a considerable portion of the Cost of constructing a new Sanatorium it said.
