Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - April 21, 1945, Winnipeg, Manitoba free press saturday april 21, 1945 Kerr and Boyd Star in championship swim meet _ _ i both cop three provincial titles with Cay Kerr and Alan Boyd taking firm command of the women s and men s senior events respectively the Mani Toba Section of the . Staged their annual Manitoba championship swimming gala Friday night at the . Pool. A Fine demonstration of water tactics was Given by All contestants ranging from juvenile girls to senior men stroked Cay Kerr once again her Way to the 50, 100 and 220 Yard Manitoba titles in a Breeze setting the Pace in All events and never once trailing her hard try ing opponents Boyd was equally Brilliant in the men s department As he churned his Way steadily through the water to cop All three senior events. Vivian King was the class of the Junior women s division Dis playing a lot of Fine swimming As she took the 50 and 220-Yard titles but Only after being Given a real test by Aileen Jackson in the Shorter distance and Margarel Watson in the 220. Miss Watson compiled a total of 30.04 Points in the Junior women s ornamental swimming to cop the provincial Crown. In a trying 100-Yard juvenile girls event Elaine Johnson a Brilliant performance edging out Doreen Slater and Donna shrimp ton to take first spot. Doug English took the most closely contested affair of the evening in the Junior men s Sec Tion As Little Johnny Bell and Gerry Werry gave him a Battle to the finish Only to be beaten by half a stroke. Werry gained Sec Ond spot reaching the Edge of the Pool a fraction of a second before Bell. Greta Adamson put Forth some Fine efforts in the senior women a finishing second to miss Kerr in every race. She came very close to catching her speedy rival in the 50-Yard event but had Given her too much of a Start in the first length. John Fraser provided most of the opposition for Alan Boyd but was no match for the big dark haired aquatic Star whose Power Ful strokes put him on top in every race.
