Army plans new Type Rifle Washington aug. 30 the United states army ordnance department has set aside to develop an improved .50-calibre machine gun for the air Force and a new Light weight fully automatic Rifie for the army. Ordnance officers said it is hoped to develop a machine gun that will be lighter to carry and which can be set up without a tripod. This would be an especially improved weapon for paratroopers. The new automatic Rifle will be something like the present Garand my. It would fire .30-calibre bul lets As does them a invented by Canadian born John c. Garand. The improvement would lie in making the Rifle fully automatic which Means it would continue firing until the chamber is empty. It would be a Handy weapon for a spraying attack.
