Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - April 26, 1949, Winnipeg, Manitoba Winnipeg free press. Tuesday april 26. 1949 Page 5 Toronto april of us who have been thinking of Calgary in terms of Stam Pedes and Rugby players can now Widen our knowledge of the place by adding acting to one of the things which this Alberta City can do super actively. Monday night at the pening Salvo of the Dominion drama festival a girl who Vas Queen of the Calgary Stampede two years ago sailed through one of the most difficult roles Ever writ More than 26 years of age. How Well she has directed them is shown by the performance of the Ibsen play we had monday night. I do wish our Winnipeg amateurs had been Here to see it. It would have opened their eyes. Hedda is a psychological study and our modern psychiatrists would have a Field Day on her strange conduct. She is wicked and she is driven by some compulsion to destroy others and eventually herself. Met the Calgary people on the train coming Here and we sat up until past Midnight singing and chatting. There was nothing self consciously arty about them. Just a Bunch of Nice people. They were so pleased about the Good sports Manship of the losing group who saw them off and presented miss miss Lisa Parnova former premiere Ballerina with the Sologie opera who will appear As red Riding Hood in the Ballet being presented May 5 at the playhouse theatre under the auspices of the Junior league of Winnipeg.
