Winnipeg free press thursday May 25, 1950 Page -17 anglers took their first fling at the White Shell lakes yesterday and despite threatening weather managed to work the Long awaited fishing Bug from their veins. A few hardier souls had ventured into the Rainbow Falls area the previous week end. The lakes of the White Shell did not open until the latter part 01 last week. Reports from the area placed Brereton opening thursday West Hawk Friday and Falcon on saturday. Rainbow Falls saw a number of anglers on the past week end but catches were slim with the majority of fish being taken Northern Pike. A few Pickerel were reported by anglers but these were in the minority. Such was to be expected. Danny Lowen George Dick and Mac Mcpher sort got a nod catch of Northern Pike and a few Pickerel at the Falls. The were biting mostly on plugs although a few were caught on Pinneri and Flash baits. Another party of four k. Chick a. Knoll c. Chick and o. Schoffner managed to bring Home two Pickerel from the Falls. These were taken on a Standard River runt plug. But May 24 found most of the Trout fishermen hitting for the open Trout lakes. High Lake was receiving a great play by fishermen was West Hawk Lake. The majority were trying Light line instead of the heavy trolling equipment. Sunday in High Lake saw a few Trout taken but the party were using Metal line and getting Down for the Trout. They reported the fish were rising and should be in surface feeding by the end of this week.
