Thurston and his rink Horn Mac Donald won the Mcaskill event at the Gladstone Bonspiel. Members of the rink left to right r. H. Mcaskill r. Thurston j. Glennie j. Caskey and h. Galloway. This rink also took i second in the merchant s event. Belton of Plumas Gladstone Champ Gladstone Man. Special of Plumas in a thrilling 13-end the last three finals were played saturday night and Frank Belton of Plumas edged out Howard Kerr for the grand aggregate in the Gladstone Bonspiel. By the end of the 2 . Draw All events were Down into the Semi finals. Thurston of Mcdonald beat Gunn of Neepawa for the Mcaskill trophy. Thurston was first Gunn second Kerr third and Singleton fourth. Names of winning rink h. Galloway j. Caskey j. Glennie r. Thurston. Runner up in this event was s. Bonnet v. Murray j. Dixon of Westbourne took fourth in the club. In the Beaver event Jones of Mcgregor won out Over g. Hanke Fedoruk rink tops at Brandon Brandon Man. Special match he was up 5-3. But the High Light the whole night changed the picture completely As Bailey pulled a tremendous six Ender on the seventh to go ahead to stay. Bailey had last shot and when skip Ian Lowe went to throw his last Stone Bailey had five counters in the House. Lowe Drew in beaut fully to Cut out All five rocks. Bailey pulled off a sensational shot when he raised one of his own into Lowe s shot Rock and stuck himself to count six. Lowe retaliated with three ame which took the last Rock to decide the Winner. Schworob second a. Hanke third 1. Hanke. Skip. In the merchants final Quinn and Thurston fought it out again. This time Quinn was Winner with Thurston second v. Bjarnarson third and w. Anderson of West Bourne fourth. The Commerce event which was witnessed by a full waiting room with the overflow on the sidelines Wes Between Dunsmore of Nee pasta and George Adamson of Gladstone. It was a hard fought Battle and Adamson by some terrific Curling was leading by four Points on the last end. However Dunsmore scored a big 5-Ender and won the game. W. Sparling Lead l. Art Schellenberg took third Money and Stan Howard fourth both Are of Gladstone. Biggest end of Bonspiel was scored by Jones rink of Mcgregor with a seven Ender Over f. Mowat of Gladstone. The grand aggregate and the Eaton trophy were claimed by Bill Fedoruk s Brandon rink As the wheat City s 1954 Bonspiel finished saturday night. Fedoruk with a Strong outfit to Back him up sailed through the major Eaton Competition undefeated and lost Only one game in the other major Competition the Macarthur. His record for the week was 12 wins one loss. Close behind Fedoruk for aggie ate honors was Allan Bailey s Oakville Manitoba aggregation hat won the Macarthur and son Rophy. Bailey who is Only 21 years old had 10 wins and one loss. Fedoruk took the measure of Jimmie Frame s rink from divers in the Eaton final sat urday night. Frame grabbed a 3-0 Lead in the second end after a Blank opening end but Fedoruk slowly and surely overcame the margin with a single in the third two in the fourth and singles in the fifth and sixth. From there in he was Home free. Frame con ceded the game on the Lith giving Fedoruk an 11-5 win which meant the g. A. Award As Well. Fedoruk faced some Tough opposition before he got to the final. In the Semi final game saturday afternoon he dumped Fred Pitcher s Brandon club four 9-5, while Frame took the Breed rink from Harding in the other Semi 7-6 in a game that was t decided until the last Rock. Personnel of the Fedoruk rink was Roger Reid third Bud Hig second and Art Finnson Lead. The Macarthur and son final was nip and tuck until the 12th end when Lowe was faced with the unhappy project of overcoming a four Point deficit. Bailey guarded against a big end by keeping a Clear House and the match was Over before All the rocks had been thrown. Lowe built up an Early Lead and half Way through the 12-end on the eighth but he could t grab the Lead again after the seventh end blow. Three of Bailey s Macarthur and son trophy winning rink were comparative youngsters while the fourth Ernie Lalonde is 40. Skip Al Bailey is 21, Lead Dar Alford 25, second Orv Thomas 18. It was one of the greatest finishes to a Brandon Bonspiel for Many years. One event final the Mollot was staged in the after noon and the other seven in the evening.
