Page 8 Winnipeg free putting Day drains on paper gets top Art award for girl wednesday june 30, 1954 Brandon Man. Special a pert Young redhead who puts her Day dreams on paper has walked olt Wilh the most coveted award in the school children s Art exhibition Here. Brenda Morrison a 14-year-Olc who is in Grade nine at Earl Oxford school has won the bran Don Art club special prize for the student having the most noteworthy creative exhibits. But for her parents or. And a. C. Morrison it was no experience for artistic to mrs. New the winning of Art club is not the Only Recagni Jent runs in the family. Another daughter Karen won the same four years ago. Brenda has loved to draw for Fla most As Long As she can re member. And her favorite subjects Are Little impossible look ing figures that could Only be painted by a talented youngster with a great Deal of imagination. Born Doodle a born doodler so she said Ehe often scribbles Little designs in scraps of paper at Home expanding them into larger paint Ings once she is in the classroom. But award Tion her work has received. Three of her drawings Are in a travel Ling exhibition of work done by Canadian school children that is now touring the country. Mrs. Margaret Holland of Transcona who judged the work was More than impressed with Brenda s work. She said the girl had definite Talent that was Well Worth developing. High calibre but it was not Only Brenda s work that impressed mrs. Hol land but the general High calibre of All work submitted i found that there was a great Deal of Talent shown. The people of Brandon just Don l know How much they have to be proud she said. Mrs. Holland said she had at tended an exhibition in grand rapids mich., earlier this year where the work of children from All Over the world was displayed. I am not exaggerating in the least when i say that although the drawings there were Good the work done by these Brandon children is so very much better. The Best she said was that done by children in grades 1, 2 and 3 and then that done by those in grades -7 and 8. And she offered a simple explanation for this strange Gap in creative Talent. Children in the earlier years at school Are absolutely fearless Little Fellows. They let their imaginations run Loose with Little or no regard for what Teache or parents might think the know that whatever they product will be praised. But by the time a Chil reaches about Grade 5, he de comes self conscious he is afraid Tan Amr Media 1. Fleming school bran Don 2. Tark school Brandon 3.
