Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - December 6, 1957, Winnipeg, Manitoba Winnipeg free press Friday december 6, 1957 Eskimo murder trial termed scandalous by publication Ottawa a recent internationally publicized trial and acquittal of a Perry River native trader charged with the murder of an Eskimo was called scandalous by old Arctic hands who knew the facts and termed the great est Legal injustice i have Ever known by another according to a quarterly Magazine published by the oblate fathers of the Hudson Bay vicariate. The Magazine declared that As a result of the trial once More the White Man has lost it said the trial was considered by a Public official a sort of Pic Nic at the expense of the gov the roman Catholic publication called the prosecution s argument feeble and charged that the verdict had been vitiated by a disconcerting Lack of denied no one in fact denies that the victim had received several knife wounds which caused his death.
