Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - July 29, 1958, Winnipeg, Manitoba Tonn Peg free press tuesday july 29, 1958 Page is Ere ther id d with do free press movie editor Frank Morriss is away on Holiday. During his absence a number of stars and film workers have agreed to be guest columnists. By Anne hey Vood dear Frank in my role As Cathie a poor live Pool Irish girl i have to Wear very drab clothes. When i was t work ing i had a craving to Wear the most colourful and exotic things i could find to counteract this it was m this picture too that 1 found i had to do something which i found almost impossible As i write to you i feel very sex one of the hardest things i have cited but at the same Limp very Ever had to do in fact it was to scared As you will know 1 played a straight dramatic part in my last film violent and a number of the critics were kind enough to say that i was t too disappointing in it. Now i m about to begin work on another Strong dramatic the longest in my career so far. The film is called floods of fear and in it i become caught up with a couple of Tough escaping convicts during big floods. It s set in the United Stales so i m working hard on an appropriate accent at the moment. Slap seven year old Brona Roland the Little girl who figures importantly in the film As my Young sister and make her cry. Brona said go ahead give Rne a Tood and she stood up to the punishment wonderfully and f am sure that the tears you see in the film Are real. But it was some thing i did t enjoy doing i can Tell you. Much of violent playground was shot in the streets of Liv Pool and it was there that rather an amusing thing happened. One. Eve my co Star in floods of fear and fish Dion is that wonderful singing Star from i of i turned to our top Hollywood Howard keel. Only this Das hotel together with some of time he does t sing a note. It j the other actors who were won t be the first time that he has f t Wmilne a drab dress which i wore in the played a straight film part though. You May remember his Fine performances in the Small voice and three Guys named i am very thrilled to be playing opposite him As he has been one of film. As we walked through the hotel foyer on the Way to the lifts an obviously american couple passed us. We heard the woman say to my Mavorite artists for a Long husband say Ovaid just to _ look at those people. I thought you if floods of fear caches a nothing else but i Hope of course that it it will make me proficient in one tiling at least swimming. For Ages now i have hat hundreds of photographs taken wearing a swim suit it dates right Back to my Beauty Queen Days. But i have a confession to make i have never been Able to swim for my role in floods of fear i have to swim. So i have been taking lessons from a Well known swimming coach called w a 11 y Campbell. I have always been Ner Vous of the water even when posing for swimming Pic Tures. Now i am determined to conquer that fear and prepare for my new film Anne Heywood at one and the same time. I spend a Good Deal of time in an indoor swimming Pool near my Home in London. I do Hope you will enjoy violent playground when you see it. It is my most worthwhile picture to Date. I think. And As for David Mccallum s performance it is quite something. While i was making the film by the Way i went clothes mad in person Wally Koster tonight 4 4 tit Fate a a Kuon f dare miss Sisi said this was a goodness i Lead such a hectic life these Days that it is difficult to remember that it was t so Long ago that i worked in a Cinema myself instead of appearing in one on the screen. I used to be an Sherette in a Large Cinema in Birmingham. But i am afraid that i paid far More attention to the stars in the film than to the pay ing customers that was when my name was Violet. Pretty. And you can imagine How he newspapers used to seize on that name and make puns especially when i started entering Beauty con tests. At first i entered a Beauty con test in Birmingham just for a. Joke. But the joke was on me. I won then i was Lucky enough to win Many More contests and also More than pounds in prize Money. Then i decided to take singing and dramatic lessons and also Learned to dance. Some tune later i toured with Canadian Carroll Levis famous discoveries show All Over England As comme re and Singer. A Little repertory work Fol Lowed and then my dream or part of it came True. When i was appearing As principal boy in he Christmas pan Tomins Aladdin was seen by a rank Talent spot or and offered a contract at Pine Wood studios. After Small parts in various films under my new name of Anne Heywood i was Given a j bigger part in dangerous then came violent playground and now floods of fear which will be the greatest test of my career so far. I Hope that i have left the Days of pin and bikinis behind now. A girl does t want to go on doing those sort of photographs Alliher life. But Don t think i m not i grateful to them. They brought me into the Public Eye and gave me much valuable publicity. But now i m determined to become an act Ress instead of a pin up girl marriage i am afraid that is out for the Lime being. I am too caught up with my acting career to have much time for boy friends. Perhaps one Day i will meet the right Man. But until then i am quite Content of go steady with my career. Well Frank i will have to Fly now As i am off for a very in j portent Dale.
