When the older child has been the sum total of the Parent s existence it is hard for him to see them lavishing affection on this strange child. Many older Chil Dren take this experience in stride but just As often there Are some evidences that the dark Freen emotion is biting the child. Here is a child of four and a new baby. The parents have made an Effort to develop a feeling of love and protectiveness in the older child. They have told him How much they love Jim How they treated him exactly As they Are now treating the baby and How Lucky he is to have this Little sister. Mother has made him her big boy Helper and she thinks everything ought to be smooth sailing. Pinches her but it in t. The older child appears to be interested in the baby and when others Are around he makes a big fuss Over her thus getting into the Middle of the act but when he is alone with the baby he never misses an Opportunity to hit and Pinch her. His Mother caught him trying to lift the baby from the Bassinet and she Felt frightened. The natural reaction of the Par ent is to want to Hurt the older child so he understands what he is doing to the baby. She wants him to know that she thinks him very bad and when she Calls him cruel she punctuates her remarks with slaps. But does this make the older child feel that she really loves him or rather that he takes Sec Ond place with the new sister on guard it seems better from several angles to Deal with this differently. Punishment May deter him for the moment but it does not make him trustworthy. The Mother has to be constantly on guard for fear he May Hurt the baby. She should show him How unhappy it makes her that he would want to Hurt his sister. She can say with truth we never treat you that Way because we love you. So we Don t expect that you will Hurt the baby because if you love her she will love you too soon she will be looking up to her big brother to Tell her everything to on this basis the Mother May Send the child from the room re fuse to let him help with the baby until such time As he has shown her that he can be trusted. If his parents show by their be Havior to him what is the right Way to won t arouse angry emotions in him which have their outlet in hurting the baby. Punishment in this Case just compounds the jealousy. I Fth or thu Renean concert by Marilyn Mercer new York special if you were a lady in the 18th or 19th Century with an acquaintance among composers you d consider it a coup to persuade one of them to dash off a few bars especially for you in your autograph album. These musical autographs were a great Vogue of the time and most composers willingly gave them to ladies they were courting or otherwise wished to impress. However Over the years Many of them have disappeared. Concert pianist Frank Glazer who is also something of a Musi got fascinated by these album jottings a year or so Back and started to search them out. It took Good Deal of digging Cor responding with european musicians and photo stating music from libraries but he finally gathered a respectable collection. It s too said or. Glazer recently that. More of these pieces Tia Ven t survived. Few Are to print and the Only real album Leaf that s been recorded is Beethoven s fur Elise. Glazer did do a few musical autographs for Teresa with whom he was in Loy Frishe Sang Soprano Solo in his first mass but a few years later she married a Baker. Probably the most prolific Al Jumblatt writer was Chopin who seems to have gone in for whole Sale production. He was not above writing an original dedicated to one Young lady and then copying it into some one else s Book. On Waltz he gave to three differed Young women.
