The committee turned Down a Long series of amendments aimed at restricting the provisions the Bill but left one major Point to be decided by the legislature As a whole. When the Bill reaches third Reading the House will be presented with two alternative clauses aimed at restricting the Provis ions of the Bill to Amateur and non profit organizations. One ver Sion will require that both sport ing and cultural events must be both Amateur and non profit to be held on sunday the other will allow professional musical performances of a cultural nature on sundays if they Are held on a non profit basis. Simple majority the committee confirmed the clause in the Bill which requires Only a simple majority of those casting ballots in the local option vote to approve sunday sports. It rejected two amendments one of which would have required a 60 per cent majority of those voting and the other which would have required a majority of All those on the voters list whether they cast ballots or not. Winnipeg will be Able to vote on sunday sports at the same time it elects a City Council next october. During the first year of the Bill s operation the votes can be ordered by local councils without a petition. After that a petition signed by 20 per cent of those on the voters list is needed for a vote to be called. The Bill partially restores to Winnipeg a privilege which was rejected by the committee earlier Friday.
