Magistrate William Stordy who has heard the Case adjourned the hearing until wednesday morning to hear Legal arguments in the matter before making his ruling. Evidence against Hugh Paton and d. Hubert Toronto financiers who control Brandon packers began last March 29 and has continued since that Date. A total of 25 witnesses including five Bankers from Brandon Winnipeg and Toronto a Deputy min ister from the province of Mani Toba and the chief of the companies division Secretary of state s office Ottawa were Cal be to give evidence. Last witness Crown attorney a. S. Dewar called his last witness tuesday afternoon a Winnipeg real estate agent a. T Bass. Or. Bass Fig ured in the transaction in which or. Paton and or. Cox bought Brandon packers from its former owner j. C. Donaldson. In addition to questioning or. Bass or. Dewar spent the final Day of the Crown s evidence read ing into the record a number of documents most of which were seized by police when they arrested or. Paton and or. Cox in their Toronto offices last Jan uary. In the course of the preliminary hearing the Crown has entered More than 500 documents As exhibits and has had another 200 marked for identification. The documents the documents include books of great West saddlery company Paton corporation Leomar in vestments and other companies controlled by or. Paton and or. Cox and a few letters written by the two men. Since the end of March when the preliminary hearing opened tie Crown has attempted to prove there is enough evidence to warrant a trial into charges that the Toronto businessmen conspired to remove from Brandon packers.
