28 Winnipeg free press saturday August 10, 1963 Wilson s world if there is anything that can be counted on to Send most people into a hysterical state of amusement and to give them a tendency towards snickering and mean practical jokes it is the sight of a Friend Sor fellow worker with a sunburn. Seeing a sunburned Friend is the signal for everyone involved to change from Normal easy going never Hurt a Fly people to maniacs with a single purpose to make the sunburned fellow s suffering change from intense pain to unbearable misery. Last week i decided that instead of spend ing this summer cowering in the basement till the Sun went away for another year i would become the proud and slightly handsome owner of a suntan. Usually i rely on mantan and the fact that even my Best friends would t com ment on my pasty condition. I foolishly ventured Forth Towel in hand to the Beach. Having had Little Contact with the Beach i was not too cautious. Previous visits to the Golden shores had been confined to gazing at the water through the Haze of Sand being kicked in my face by various bullies but this time i was being left alone. Just me and or. Sun. I had taken a few precautions. I had taken along a tube of suntan lotion which i believed would prevent me from being Fricas eed alive. Later i found that consumer report s testers has almost laughed themselves silly when they tested this particular lotion. It was listed As not. Being acceptable for mid Winter tanning in the Arctic Circle. I proceeded to spread this unusable White gooey mass on my body in the Hopes of a Bronze god effect. I came out medium rare idiot. The night after the afternoon on the Beach before i regretted the suntan jag. I had a Burn Over. It Hurt. I had been Burnt so Crimson that i could have been stood on a Long pole to act As an air plane warning Beacon. Every time i came into Contact with anything it was unbearable pain. I was shivering and burning up. The desire to live in a refrigerator while being wrapped in an elec Trie Blanket overwhelming. The next morning i pulled on my clothes with silent screams and shuddered my Way to the breakfast table where everyone had a Good laugh and said All sorts of funny things. My friends of course Ever ready with the encouraging word for the sufferer of Black and other completely unfunny diseases could t contain their wit and humor. They were practically All Over themselves to be the first ones to slap me on the Back or Aski me if i could come Over to their House because they were interested in getting a novel lighting effect for their living room i would be great for cast ing a glow on the wallpaper. I could barely keep from joining in their games they were so funny. Instead i mentally murdered the lot of them people stood around me in groups and pointed with one hand while giggling behind the other. They went into ecstasies i shuddered. Their spirits soared higher every time another Buffoon slapped me on the Back. They secretly hoped i would be an even brighter Shade of glaring Pink the next time they saw me. This kept up for three Days until mercifully my pinkness started to fade to Brown. Now that h i be started to Peel this May Lead to some More of free entertainment. If next year i m going to return to the base ment and the mantan bottle. It s a lot safer.
