Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - August 14, 1963, Winnipeg, Manitoba Winnipeg free press wednesday August 14, race pickets clash with Chicago police 11 Chicago a at least four persons were injured tues Day As pickets and policemen clashed at a South Side site where workmen Are attempting to install temporary Mobile classrooms in a negro neigh boyhood. Three of the injured were policemen struck by hurled debris amid shouts of police brutal struck by a flying Brick but not injured was capt. Robert j. Lynsky head of the police Force which has ringed the construction site. The Volley of rocks and chunks of Cement was touched off As police struggled to put negro and White demonstrators into patrol wagons. One of the injured policemen was struck on the forehead by a piece of Concrete. The other two were less seriously Hurt the fourth injured was a woman. She was taken to a hos Pital with a head injury. 100 arrested nearly 100 pickets have been arrested during the two Day demonstration. Thirteen remained in jail in eluding comedian Dick Gregory. Gregory and the other twelve refused to sign recognizance Bonds tuesday and municipal court judge Harry g. Comer Ford continued the cases to thursday. Gregory and the others were locked up then transferred to other quarters after they pounded on the Walls with tin cups and flooded their cells by stuffing up a toilet. In Americus a.
