Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - August 16, 1963, Winnipeg, Manitoba I t kill Jas August 10, 1sb3 19 hints from Heloise by Heloise Cruse i dear Heloise Here is a tip that i think is quite useful when getting into the Bathtub throw your Bath Towel Over the curtain Rod above the tub. It will steady you getting in and out of the tub avid ladles and gentlemen of the clan one other safety hint when using water softeners Etc. In your Bath be very careful not to add too much. Especially if you do not have a mat in the Bottom of your tub. When you stand up in the tub before All the water drams out the tub might be so Slippery that you Are just liable to fall and injure yourself. One of our readers did just exactly this Heloise 5l popular Vee peach appears in stores by Norah Cherry Vee variety peaches from British Columbia Are now available. The lady bought rubbing Alco hol and used it to rub the circles and discoloration. All discoloration was completely removed she then put her drapes in the self service dry cleaning tubs her drapes looked Beautiful. She told me she first tested the Al Cohol on the hem of the drape on the wrong Side. Marietta Dodson dear ladies before using rubbing alcohol on anything be sure to spot test it first on a hidden spot to see if it is Safe for. Your particular material. Some kinds of material do not like alcohol Heloise dear Heloise when sewing on fancy net whether making evening dresses or your pretty curtains i have found that instead of using pins it is far easier to use Small in visible Type hair pins no Bast ing is necessary at All when us ing this method and they will not slip out the Way a straight pin will. This also works on lace. Mrs. E. Color dear Heloise Here is an idea for those who still use the old time roller shades whether it be in the Kitchen bedroom or living room. Every two years when we paper our Walls we Cut some of the design from the extra pieces of wallpaper and paste them on the shades example if we have Dainty Flowers in the bedroom paper we Cut out about five of the Little Flowers and put them on the in Side of the Shade and they match the Walls. This idea is adorable in our Kitchen. This year our Kitchen paper had Little pots and pans All Over it. We Cut out one of each and put them across the Bottom of the Shade. If you just want to try out the idea use a piece of scotch tape to hold the designs on for a few Days. Mrs. Rossetti .1 dear Heloise when bottles have become Cloudy inside from hard water i have found that i can get them clean and Clear again if i pour some full strength ammonia in the bottle and then Cap them and let stand awhile. I shake the ammonia in my capped bottle pour it out and rinse with cold water. Mrs. William Eichenlaub dear Heloise i wonder if your readers know that Many fruit pies will not boil Over if some cornstarch is added to the fruit and used As a thick ening before pouring it into the pie crust when making fruit and Berry pies i always Cut the lower por Tion of the pie crust larger than the top crust. After putting the fruit in the Bottom Shell and covering the top of the pie with the other piece of crust i fold the larger crust Back Over the top pie Shell and Pinch it with my fingers.
