The present residence which j House 400 men and 200 women j will become completely a men s residence when the new 250-bed women s residence is completed. University College will incorporate a residence for 150 men and 100 women. The women s residence and the food services building which adjoins it Are being built behind the present residence overlooking the red River. Due for completion in september 1964, the residence building will be 10 storeys High and will provide accommodation in double and single rooms. The building will include lounges recreation room student laundry facilities an infirmary and a Reading room. The dining areas will include a special dining area for the University faculty and staff. The residence will be retained As a cafeteria to help accommodate the rapidly increasing number of Day students. University College being built at an estimated Cost of Mil lion will accommodate 750 Stu dents 250 of them in residence. The new College will incorporate a two Storey lecture building with classroom facilities a planetarium and language Laboratory a seven Storey residence com plete with lounges student Laun dry facilities Reading room and a Small infirmary. A three Storey Wing for staff studies and student common room the Kitchen and dining Hall. The building program was made necessary by the rapid expansion in student registration. The University has a registration at the fort Garry Campus alone of More than and the total climbs by More than 10 per cent every year.
